I have read every book in the Dark-Hunter series and prior to reading "Seize the Night", my favorite story was Zarek's in "Dance With The Devil". I thought no one could be more tortured than poor Zarek. Wrong!
I was captivated by Valerius almost immediately! Gone were the black leather pants and the gothic/punk attire replaced by turtlenecks, slacks and style. Wow! What a breath of fresh air! Not saying I mind a hot bod clad in tight leather but...it was a nice change. *grin
This man was sooo sensitive. Sensitive without being wimpy, mind you. I just wanted to cuddle him. And he was such a gentleman, in my opinion. I was pissed at how he was treated by everyone around him, including his fellow Dark-Hunters. However, I was very impressed by the fact that Artemis didn't bestow any extra powers on her Roman Dark-Hunters. That pretty much told me that Valerius was one bad mo-fo to have fought off Daimons for centuries using only his strength and skill. What a man!
What infuriated me, yet managed to touch me was the fact that Valerius never stood up for himself. He silently took all that was dished out to him without raising his voice or a hand in his own defense. And when I read about his upbringing at the hands of his cruel father...man, I broke down and cried like a baby. *sniffle

I could say that Valerius doesn't play well with others, but that would be an understatement! He refuses to embrace those who once rejected him, and he's not quite sure how he ended up in New Orleans, staked by one Tabitha Devereaux, a woman who somehow happens to be almost as proficient at hunting and destroying Daimons as he is. But, alas, the gods aren't happy enough just to force Val into working with the Dark-Hunters he has tried to avoid at all costs-instead, fate has decided that his mortal enemy should be married to Tabitha's twin sister. He'd probably laugh, but he lost that ability sometime around 160 BC.

Love this series...intertwining characters, exciting plots, and best of all...each book IS NOT the same story over and over again. Series deals with gods, goddesses, vampires, werewolves...you name it...it is in there somewhere. You don't have to start with the 1st in the series...JUMP in and get addicted!

This tells the story of Valerius, the Dark Hunter that everyone despises because he was a Roman and his grandfather was the one who tortured and crucified Kyrian. Enter Tabitha, the vampire hunter and sparks fly! I really enjoyed the interaction between Tabitha and Valerius; they are such opposites. You also get to learn a lot more about the whole Dark-Hunter world and all the deities within. Since there are so many characters in this book that were introduced in previous books, I think it is best to read these books in order to truly understand what is going on (this is book #7). I am enjoying the Dark-Hunter series and plan to keep reading!

Oh...How I love a good Dark-Hunter romance!! Bless SK's heart...the woman writes and it makes me swoon embarassingly. I love them as a quick easy read that I don't have to put much thought into I just melt away into them and let my heart go. I really liked Tabitha as the lead female I always admire a kick ass chick! I loved that since she is an empath Val couldn't hide his emotions from her which is why she was able to see though his cold hard exterior and know what he truly felt. Tabitha's roomate, Marla cracked me up and Val's big favor to her was a heart tugger. I don't read these in order (I know that will earn me some sneers) but I read one and the go to the next character that moves me. I had recently read Zarek's story and wanted to learn about Valerius, I loved reading his side of the story. I was seriously pissed at the way everyone treated him and the way he felt deserving of there ill will was heart wrenching. I will say I found it suspect that Tabitha knew half of New Orleans and hunted Daimons every night and had never crossed paths with Valerius before. Also that Val was 2000 years old and had never fallen in love with anyone who he actually had a relationship with? Never mind any of that, as I say I don't let myself think to hard about these books. I just read them and love them and allow myself a mini vacation on the couch while reading when I get the chance. I'm never disapointed.

This book, thus far is my favorite in the dark hunter series. I loved Zarek's story, but this one has surpassed his. This book had it all for me ~ humor, action, great chemistry between the main characters and a wonderfull dose of Ash. Val is not Mr. Popularity in the Dark Hunter world due to his noble roman birth and has dealt with it for centuries. Tabitha is considered to the be wild child of her family ~ which is a feet in an of itself. When these two meet all bets are off, neither is what the other would ever look for, but when they are thrown together they have no choice but to work it out. Kenyon did a wonderful job with showing who both Val and Tabitha are and how the old saying "don't judge a book by it's cover" is so true.
Although you could read this book as a stand alone, I think to fully understand who all the other characters are you should read the series in order, starting with the prequel Fantasy Lover.

This story is just not worth the paper it's printed on. After a few chapters, I really wanted to just throw it in the trash. I had read the previous book to this one and thought it was okay, but all this book is, is more of the same. The writing continues to be unoriginal and the author seems to only have characters who know how to spout cheezy one-liners like it's cool... trust me, it's not. I'm not even going to go into how a lot of the main characters have a plethora of powers and money and continue to try to "fight the good fight" when it's just ridiculous that they even participate in their "wars" when there shouldn't even be a battle because the "good guys" have so much power. Nothing is believable (as far as fantasy stories can be believed) and the imagination the author has is lacking due to all her plot-holes. There are far more authors out there who can deliver a story while not making you annoyed that there are obvious flaws to their overall narrative. I'll be avoiding this author in the future.

Dark-Hunter novel. Story of Valerius Magnus...hated by almost everyone, even his brother DH's for the actions of his grandfather and father against his half-brother and ancient enemies, he finds himself ordered to protect Tabitha, sister in law of his worst enemy. The only way to accomplish this and to allow himself to love Tabitha is to find a way to bridge a two thousand year old feud. Just as terrific as the other DH books.

I loved this book. I am so glad that Valerius finally found his family, and I am glad that Tabitha found someone to accept her the way she is. I loved finding out just a bit more about Ash too, that's always great. This book will make you laugh, make you uh....a bit warm, as well as make you happy, and cry all in one book. Loved it.

One of my favorite authors, this is another great book by Sherrilyn. Not one of my favorite characters in the series, but still a good read. Though it's hard to believe that the two lead characters would actually get along. Tabitha is one of the best female characters in the series, and this book showcases her humor.
This was one of the first Sherrilyn Kenyon Books I read. I bought the hard bound for a buck.I got hooked on the Dark hunter books. I now have an entire collection just missing a few anthologies.I was drawn in and would suggest this series to most anyone.

I liked Valerius when he was first introduced in Zarek's story. There just seemed to be a valient warrior underneath that brutalized child, despite his treatment of his half brother. I'm glad Ms.Kenyon told us his story.

Honestly, I wasn't looking forward to this installment in Kenyon's series because in previous books Valerius sounded like such a royal jerk. I am so glad that I couldn't have been more wrong. Tabitha and Valerius are a unlikely couple that at first glance appear to be completely wrong for one another. They are polar opposites, but she completes him in a perfectly sexy way. The fire between them is potent, and best of all, she doesn't take any of his crap or allow him to hide his true emotions. Tabitha is sexy, smart and an in-your-face type of girl that will kick your butt to the curb if you give her any lip! Gotta love her!

As usual, I first read this book out of order from the series and quickly became addicted to the rest Sherilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunters. I found this book to be funny, suspenseful, and sexy.

This was my 1st experience with this series and I have to say "OH MY GOSH!!" It was FANTASTIC! Think of "Angel" meets "Buffy" meets romance... and add some Greek/Roman Gods in the mix to spice things up! What an incredible writing ability and imagination! I'm off to start gathering the rest of the series! =) Happy Reading!
This is a fantastic story. Tabitha is an eclectic character who beautifully offsets Valerius's snootiness. I love the fact that Sherrilyn Kenyon's books in this series vary so much in their plots - it's worth reading the series! This was an excellent story.

Probably the best one of the dark hunter novels that I have read. Fast paced, good storyline, and the romance was good but didn't take up the whole plot.
SEIZE THE NIGHT by Sherrilyn Kenyon is an intense, suspenseful romance with vampirism thrown into the mix. I loved the two main characters in the story. Tabitha is a great example of what strong women should be like. She is a fearless woman but love still made her weak in the knees. And Valerius, for all of his toughness, was just screaming out for compassion. Ms. Kenyon is a wonderful storyteller who pulls readers in and doesn't release them until the last page is turned. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in the Dark-Hunter series.

I was impressed and disappointed by this book. Impressed because I did (surprisingly) really like Valerius and Tabitha. I loved that Sherrilyn Kenyon had them speaking in Latin and I believed their swift courtship and ultimate love for each other. I liked that Tabitha was spunky without being annoying and unlikable, which all too often happens in romance novels. However Tabitha is strong without being unforgivably bitchy. I also loved the cast of characters that inhabit Tabitha's version of New Orleans.
To explain why I was disappointed by this book, I must give some backstory. I was referred to this book by a fellow Kresley Cole aficionado when I was bemoaning the lack of respect given to No Rest For The Wicked hero, Sebastion, on Kresley Cole's forum. She said that Valerius reminded her of Sebastion and his woobie factor just broke her heart. I had to immediately check out this book despite purposely having not read any of the Dark-Hunter novels. So, admittedly, I have not read any of the preceding books. Despite this, I was able to understand a lot of what was going on plot-wise. But this may have been a factor in me not liking most, if any, of the Dark-Hunters other than Valerius. Because this hero was compared to my favorite romance hero of all time who was conceived by my favorite romance writer of all time (who, incidentally is just a great writer period) I was expecting better character development of all the main characters and especially in how they relate to Valerius. I felt like there was a lot of what was supposed to be character development but it came off as somehow shallow to me. Zarek and Kyrian came off as particularly juvenile and whiney, their beef with Valerius blatantly unfair and misguided. I know this happens in life, but I'm supposed to be rooting for these people and they are constantly being referred to as childish. For that matter, I thought most of these ancient beings, be they gods, daimons, vamps, or otherwise were all uncharacteristically melodramatic and emotional. I just don't think of ancient Greek generals as this immature and out of touch with the cruel times they were living in 2000 years ago.
Also, I think Ash or Acheron is supposed to be this wonderful character but I found him to be too much of a deus ex machina. He apparently can do anything and the convenient handing out of immortality, bringing people back from the dead (except those pesky red shirts), and being all around perfect just annoyed me. He suffered from what I call the Lestat Syndrome wherein an author makes her main hero so awfully perfect and well-beloved that he becomes achingly boring and stagnant to the plot.
I really enjoyed this sojourn into the world of Valerius and Tabitha and I appreciate their storyline. But I just found all the clutter in the background to be too distracting and not that complementary to their love story. Therefore, I don't believe I will continue reading this series.
To explain why I was disappointed by this book, I must give some backstory. I was referred to this book by a fellow Kresley Cole aficionado when I was bemoaning the lack of respect given to No Rest For The Wicked hero, Sebastion, on Kresley Cole's forum. She said that Valerius reminded her of Sebastion and his woobie factor just broke her heart. I had to immediately check out this book despite purposely having not read any of the Dark-Hunter novels. So, admittedly, I have not read any of the preceding books. Despite this, I was able to understand a lot of what was going on plot-wise. But this may have been a factor in me not liking most, if any, of the Dark-Hunters other than Valerius. Because this hero was compared to my favorite romance hero of all time who was conceived by my favorite romance writer of all time (who, incidentally is just a great writer period) I was expecting better character development of all the main characters and especially in how they relate to Valerius. I felt like there was a lot of what was supposed to be character development but it came off as somehow shallow to me. Zarek and Kyrian came off as particularly juvenile and whiney, their beef with Valerius blatantly unfair and misguided. Love it, worth 5 stars. For me its almost like Romeo & Juliet. In Tabby's deal is her family doesn't like Val for the fact is that his spitting image grandfather is the one who killed Kyrian and they are biased on that fact. Val is hated all around but the one women who should hate his guts most of all since her twin is married to Kyrian. Val has to deal with he fact he is almost alone in a town of people that hate him but his survived it and now with Tabby by his side and her family warming up to him slowly and that his own brother/god Zerek has changed his tune coming to grips that Val his not their father in more ways then he thought, even when on to gift Val nectar for immorality and Astride gifting Val ambrosia to give Val god powers to fight back Zerek when ever he decides to throw a bolt of lighting at Val in the future. Many wonderful and funny parts, but the very sad note is that Tabby lost an older sister, the voodoo Priestess, and Nicky is now a Dark Hunter after killing himself after Desi/Ulrick killed his mother one the wake of having Ash upset with him for doing the nasty with Simi. Now is whole life and is future is in turmoil.
I love this series!!! the only problem is these are all I want to read, and I really have many others I should get to... oh well when I get to the last one I will go on to the others I guess!!

A great book. But I love all of SK's dark hunter books.
