As the granddaughter of a couple who came to Germany to the US in the late 20's, I related, somewhat to the story. But their story was not like this. This was riveting, from start to finish. One of the most touching books about WWII I have read.

This book was beautifully written, but the non-chronological presentation was very confusing. If you like emotional books, this was one of them. If you like a story told from first to last without wondering who was speaking, and which generation is in the narrative, this book is not for you.
