I had hoped, in reading this, to get a lot more information than even what was in the movie, but there really wasn't much, just a few details here and there and different bits from the different POVs of the characters. But it was still Serenity and I love it. So many great parts, and sad parts, but the best is the end when Mal is explaining to River about the first rule of flying - love. The ship Serenity is not just an object for the characters to get from one place to another. Serenity is another character, and over the course of the television show, the movie, and the book, I grew to care about her just as much as I did her crew.

Overall a good novelization of the movie. What makes it standout is the fact that Decandido constantly switched the reader's viewpoint from one character to another in order to give you a better perspective of the story. he also filled in some gaps to help the book flow better. The only downside is they still haven't gone into detail about Sheperd Book's past ( I personally believe he was once an operative).

A great books for Browncoats, also a great way to introduce people to the serenity universe. I loved this as much as the movie, especially the Mal and Inara interactions.

I truly enjoyed this book. It seems to be a very close representation of the motion picture screen play. A must-read for Firefly lovers.

This book is a novelization of the movie Serenity which is based on the Firefly series by Joss Whedon.
It is a must have for the browncoats. The book uses the dialogue from the movie which is Joss's unintentional contribution to this book.
So it follows the movie faithfully, but I think it adds a bit to it. He does a great job of interpreting facial expressions of the various characters.

I admit, my rating is colored by the fact that I LOVE this movie and its characters - but this novelization was done very well, and kept the punchiness of the dialogue from the movie intact. Of course, nothing can compare with watching it and hearing it, but the explanatory tidbits were nice. I wished there was more. Joss Whedon (screenwriter and creator of this brilliant series and movie) is an absolute genius, and this was a nice trip into a world I am always eager to revisit. If you're not familiar with the story, just watch the movie, it's worth your time even if you're not a sci-fi fan. Better yet, watch the DVD of the series - I'm betting you'll cry along with us die-hard fans that this died an untimely death after only one season.
Not sure how good this review will be, considering that I never got to watch any of the episodes of Firefly until well after the show was cancelled. My bad!
DiCandido does a good job of introducing the crew on Serenity, and outlining their their characteristics without dragging the storyline out too slowly.
No gold-plated perfect heroes here, just confused, sometimes damaged people trying to do their best in bad situations. Good story.
The bad side of it is...Drat! Now he's made me want to go back and hunt up the episodes of the show so I can watch the serial from the beginning.
