At this point anything that Rachel Gibson writes, I buy! She is hilarious, the characters are interesting and the plots are fairly realistic. I am so sick of the historical "damsel in distress" crap and she writes very good contemporary stories.

I've liked most of what I've read of Rachel Gibson, and this has a fun and interesting premise. Unfortunately, it takes some give-me-a-break plotting to make it work. When you discover the man is an undercover cop who has been dating you because you're a prime suspect, if you're a reasonable person, you understand that the lies he told were in the line of duty and that, in his shoes, you'd make the same choices. And I expect my heroines to react like reasonable people. Yes, that sometimes makes plotting more challenging, but that's life.
I could almost overlook that flaw. What I can't overlook was when the heroine has an extreme attack of stupid and goes alone to meet a woman she only knows in passing when there's a female serial killer who has threatened to make her the next victim. This genre isn't overly critical or overly demanding, but I still expect better sense from the heroine and better plotting from an author.

I heard so much about Gibson's books that I decided to give this one a try. I read about 50 pages and had to stop. The plot development was weak, the writing was unbearably lame, and the dialogue between characters was laughable. A disappointment.

Lucy Rothschild has come up with a daring way of doing research for her newest mystery novel. Since her female serial killer meets her victims online, Lucy does the same. The men who respond to her e-mails and meet her in the Boise Starbucks provide excellent fodder, as well as verisimilitude. Finally Lucy only needs one more victim. Unbeknownst to her, Quinn McIntyre is actually an undercover detective trying to stop a serial killer. One thing the victims all have in common is that they are part of the online dating scene. As Quinn chats with Lucy, it becomes apparent that she is lying and that she knows way too much about police procedure. Lucy begins to fall for him, and Quinn falls for her, believing all the while that she's the killer. How Lucy's novel reads and how the serial killer's MO are so alike is just one of the fascinating aspects of Gibson's latest delightful page-turner.

Lucy Rothschild is a mystery author and she is currently working on her newest title. Lucy is meeting men on-line and meeting them in coffee houses; she is doing research for her new book. In her book, men are being murdered by a woman who stalks her victims on-line and lures them in to meet in person.
Lucy's fourth and LAST on-line date is a man with the screen name "hardluvnman" and she's hoping he will cause great inspiration for her fourth victim character. But Lucy doesn't know what kind of inspiration she is in for.
Hardluvnman is, in reality, Quinn McIntyre who has been working as a cop for years, specializing in undercover work. There is a serial killer suffocating men and Quinn is determined to uncover the killer.
What ensues is a great romp as Lucy and Quinn work with and against each other. I never would have guessed who the real serial killer was and I was extremely shocked when I found out. It was a wonderful read and the first in a series. I can't wait to read the other books in this series.

This wasn't my favorite Rachel Gibson book.... I struggled to get through it and forced myself to finish.
This is part of a four book series about four writers/friends of different genres. The story of each author reflects the genre they write in. I thought this was a cool concept. I've read three out of the four books and Lucy's story is much smoother than Clare's story. This is a fun, quick read.
Lucy is a mystery writer so her story is a mystery with lots of romance thrown in. I love it when Lucy lectures on what makes a great mystery and of course all the gimmicks she speaks about is in this book.
It was a cute book. If you've never read Gibson, light fluffy fun read is a great way to describe her books.

Rachel Gibson's books are always fun. This one has a series of mix-ups and misconstrued dates! While fun, the plot gets a little lost and the storyline gets a quick fix right at the end, not her best work, but an okay summertime read (or cozy rainy night).

SEX...What is it about men anyway? Bad cas, bad jobs, even bad teeth-nothing convinces them that they can't snare a Size Two Babe with a D-cup chest. And after way too many internet dates with men named "luvstick" and "bigdaddy182," Lucy Rothschild should know.
LIES...But sitting across from her now is "hardluvnman," and he seems different--sensitive, honest, and hot! He says he's a plumber, while Lucy claims sh's a nurse! She's really a mystery writer, dating online while researching her next book. Hey, everyone lies a little, don't they?
AND ONLINE DATING...But Quinn's really an undercover cop hunting down a serial killer, and he sees Lucy as his top suspect. And while he could really go for this smart, sexy woman with the killer bod--if that's the only thing "killer" about her--he knows he needs to wine and dine her and discover the truth. Hey, he realizes the dating scene can be deadly--but this is ridiculous!

But after meeting Lucy, she is Quinn's top suspect.
This is the first book in Rachel Gibson's Writer Friends series. It is a romantic comedy with a little bit of suspense thrown in. It's a fast-paced story with a lot of humor. I loved when Lucy would meet with her friends who are all writers. Their conversations were hilarious. I enjoyed this story, even though Lucy had a TSTL moment near the end. My rating: 4 Stars.

Lucy, a mystery writer, is researching online dating for her latest book. Quinn, a police detective, is dating online to catch a female serial killer. Needless to say, they meet and Quinn needs to battle his attraction to Lucy when she becomes a suspect. The characters are fairly well developed and the romance is pretty convincing. The revelation of who the serial killer is comes off as a bit silly and really anticlimatic. But this book is not really a thriller so its a good, quick read.
