Readable book but not my favorite from Susan Andersen. Amanda is a dancer who has attracted the attention of a serial killer. Tristan is the cop who is in charge of the case. Andersen does a good job in explaining their personalities and why they are the way they are. Yet, there was a lack of chemistry between the two and at times it almost felt forced. The killer/rapist was SO obvious that the book was barely suspenseful and I even found it boring at times. If you are a fan of Andersen, read it. But if not, I recommend "Exposure" over this one.

This book was really hard for me to rate. It wasn't so horrible that I hated it, but it wasn't so good that I enjoyed it. So I put it in the middle. I have read a lot of Andersen's books and I have liked all of them except this one. I only liked three characters in this book and they are all side characters with barely any lines: Charlie the slave-driving chorus director, Joe the detective, and Peter the gay dancer. All of the other ones were annoying and I just didn't understand.
Amanda seemed almost too complicated. There were times where I didn't understand what she was thinking or why she was acting the way she did. I was at a lost with Tristan as well. It expected Andersen's character development to be more clear since she seemed to spend a lot of time on it. I remember the first time Amanda and Tristan declared their love for each other. My thoughts when I read that was, "Wow, that came out of nowhere." I know Andersen was building to it but it never really built up properly to that point. Rhonda, her best friend, was just got on my nerves. She was just too caught up in sex and men. She was obtuse and then all-knowing. I guess to sum it up, her characters in this book was not consistent.
The suspense part of the story was okay. I would have liked if she kept us guessing on who the killer was a little bit more.
It wasn't so bad that I would tell someone not to read it, but if you have something else by her read that first.

I loved this early book of Ms Andersen. I was not disappointed. Amanda and Tristan were opposite characters but made for each other, both were interesting. Amanda was a gorgeous dancer, beautiful and fascinating, Tristan was not the same old hero.
I gave it four stars because I like my suspenses fast. I think the story line is a little bit slow paced yet terrific. There were some steriotype sections in this book which were drawbacks, however I like Ms Andersen's work and I'll keep reading her books.

Heat, tension, breathless excitment... what lurks in the dark shadow of the heart?
Amanda Charles, a dancer has become the targer of a serial killer. Tristan MacLaughlin is on the case. He is shocked to find he wants her and that he'd place her in the gravest danger of all by trying to protect her.
Mystery and love, keeps you hooked
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were lots of fun. I especially enjoyed the hero in this book. He was really sweet and exciting too.
Suspenseful and romantic, what more could you want?
Very good read. Realistic characters with flaws and all.
I really like this book as it is a romantic suspense with a huge dose of suspense. I also like reading about a hero who wears glasses, how often do you see that in a book with romance?
Most men who saw Amanda Charles dance worshiped her from a far. One "admirer" is getting to close to the glamose show girl...perilously close. The looks, style, and grace makes Amenda sparkle on stage has made her something else: the target of a serial killer. Dective Tristan MasLaughlin has drawn the case that is pulling him deeper into a world pageantry and dazzle-and closer to the stunning violet eyed beauty who keep her secrets as and emotions locked tightly inside. Tristan never though he would be bewithched by Amanda's charm, never thought he would care. He never imagined he would want her by trying to protect her, he placed her in the greatest danger of all.

Great book!
Pretty good. Great catchy story line. Good quick read.
Shadow Dance (Susan Andersen)
Is a romance/thriller. Amanda Charles is a beautiful Reno Showgirl. When dancers are being murdered, detective Tristan MacLaughlin is called in from Seattle to solve the crime.
Amanda soon becomes the target of the serial killer, and while Tristan tries to protect her, his presence in her life seems to put her in more danger. A good who-done-it with romance on the side.
