8 hours of my life I'll never get back.

Discovery of Witches, while not my favorite book, had some interesting concepts and developed a series of characters that interested me. But this book is nothing more than an exercise in literary self-indulgence. Harkness writes to emphasize her interests and knowledge and not to create an interesting and enjoyable story for the reader.

My advise - find a better writer.

While this story picks up the story, the story doesn't evolve as quickly as it did in the first book. You have to get 1/4 to a 1/3 of the way into the book before the story finally moves. Once you reach that point the story moves fast, the dialog and story begins to make more sense in a whole. You will find yourself finishing this book and immediately want to pick up book 3 to binge through the continuation and finale of this great series.
The story takes a big turn sending Diana and Matthew back in time. You will be thrust into a completely different world as their lives become even more complicated. Diana needs to learn about magic and Matthew, who sees things differently than his first time in the past has very different views that puts him in danger with a few names in history. The Book of Life becomes its own character as they discover the true nature of the book.
