The storyline in the first Immortals book (though similiar to Twilight originally) was good and it did progress throughout the series but now, we are getting nowhere. Nothing really happens in this book. It almost seems like Noel has her next book written and the plot is stuck in that book. It's really disappointing when authors use series to sell books rather than to tell a good story. Definitely wait until the next book comes out before reading Shadowland because by the time it does come out, you won't even remember what Shadowland was about in the first place.

I did not enjoy this book at all. I read the first 2 and was waiting for this one. It is very disappointing. I don't think I will even bother to read the next one.

I totally agree with another poster who said Nothing happened in this book. I don't know what has happend to Alyson Noel since Evermore but it's been going down hill ever since. This book was boring at best IMO. I looked up once while on page 200 something and thought "When the Heck is something going to happen here!?!?".
Ever goes to school, Ever goes to work, Ever and Damen have long talks that drag on and on about the universe and energy (same stuff he's been yacking about since Blue Moon, nothing new), Haven's cat dies. Those are the highlights. Ok... maybe I'm being a bit sarcastic and overly negative but for real... you could skip Shadowland and go on to the next book and really not be too lost. Nothing much happens the entire book then in the last 50 pages we have an anti-climatic poorly written ending. It doesn't deserve the words "twist" or even "cliff-hanger".
I'm growing so tired of the predictable Roman story line. And Haven somehow even thought she's not this big important character getting kidnapped by the villian and used against Ever.
That brings me to Noel's failure at making me the reader care anything about Ever's supposed two best friends. Exactly how is it that she expects these two to be endearing? Miles is mostly self-absorbed and overly dramatic but not in a cute gay friend kind of way. He's only sparringly nice and friendly to Ever. Haven... I challenge someone to find any instances in any of the books where Haven has been best friend material to Ever! I've felt more chemistry between Ever and Stacia than Ever and Haven. She's been snippy, hateful and jealous in most of their exchanges. I don't know... I'm just not feeling it.
I was honestly disappointed that there's yet another book coming out Winter 2010 Night Star after the next book Dark Flame... The only thing that keeps me reading this series is my investment in Damon & Ever's love which I did find honest and real from the first book... but I am getting tired of Damon's tangents... giving away all his wealth to fix his karma... taking on guardianship of the twins (while I like the twins something about his obsessed need to parent them irritates me, as it did Ever)... taking yet another break from Ever so she can "choose" him.
Sorry this review is so long, I've been saving up since Book 1, LOL! My recommendations for YA books in this genre... Vampire Kisses Series, Vampire Academy Series, Evernight Series... and of course... the Master of them all... Twilight Series.

This book made a great continuation of the last book in the series. Definately some twists that were unexpected and made for a change of pace. Over all, I could not put the book down and am waiting to go buy the next one in the series because it leave you with such a huge cliff hanger.

Ever and Damen are back in the third installment in THE IMMORTALS series.
The two are searching for an antidote to the curse that prevents them from being together. Ever remains hopeful that she and Damen will be together again, but when she meets Jude, she finds herself unsure of her destiny and her true soulmate.
It was easy to fall back into Ever and Damen's world and get caught up in their epic love story. Author Alyson Noel keeps up the twists and turns and she never ceases to surprise me. I didn't think anyone could pull me away from being a Damen fan, but Jude makes a strong case. I can see why Ever ends up confused!
Haven and Miles take a backseat in this one as the story concentrates more on Ever and Damen, but for the moments we do see them, they shine. We also get to hear a bit from Riley (via the help of others) and her appearances, even if they are not really seen, still make me smile. And my favorite twins, Romy and Rayne, are also back. I think these two are my favorite characters in the entire series and I looked forward to every scene they appeared in.
SHADOWLAND explores the magical world Ever and Damen are part of in more depth and the subjects of reincarnation, spells, and fate are explored in more detail in this offering. I really liked learning more about how the magic works in this world and the intricacies Alyson Noel added were lots of fun to read about. The only complaint I had was the over-use of the word "gape," but I was able to overlook it because I was caught up in the story as a whole. The ending of this one will keep you turning pages and eagerly awaiting the next volume.
SHADOWLAND is another exciting and addicting read in THE IMMORTALS series. Alyson Noel knows how to keep her readers hanging and it's easy to see how this series is continually gaining new readers. Once you start reading about Ever and Damen, you won't want to stop!

Great book and better series!
This book was so dumb. I only made it to page 79 before I had to get it out of my hands. Ugh!
A mom review: The Immortals series is definitely a teen read. And can not be put in the same literary class as Twilight. And though none of the books contain sex it contains heavy reference to the main characters pursuits of it. I would allow my teen to read this before the Vampire Academy or House of night series which though better written contain sex in every book to include sex with adults/teachers.
Alyson Noel is a wonderful writer! Her stories are pure fantasy but is so beautifully written and provokes the reader to think back to links in the previous books. No loose ends her her story and each piece fit perfectly!
In the third installment of the Immortals Series, more character development is presented. Damen and Ever's multiple past lives come full circle again as another piece of their history resurfaces. Although a few reviewers have said that this story is stale and lacks a plot, I beg to differ. It pulls together a story that the first two books started. Sadly I think people dare to compare this series to the Twilight series and it's not comparable. Ever story has the same elements but it's up to the author to fill the book with fillers that give us the thrill of the read.
The thrilling part of this book is the introduction of Jude, a golden haired surfer boy with Dreads, that runs the local store that Ava use to work at as a Psychic. The energy between Ever and Jude are electric, but where does that leave the love story of Damen and Ever!! Does their chemistry interfere with the meant to be soul mates???
All and all, this is a 4/5 star book. A true Immortal's fan will see this book for what it's worth. An important piece of the puzzle. If you are just along for the ride to compare it to TWILIGHT then get off the boat and read some other series.

This book was awful. I've been reading this series since it was loaned out to me and I want to know what happens, but this is the worst book. Also there is far too much witchcraft and tries to promote that some is "good" when messing with it at all is dangerous and evil. There is also underage drinking and the idea of having sexual contact at all is okay (there is one scene where there main characters are making out and taking off their clothes to prepare to do more). I just feel a bit sick in reading this. They try to play it off like it is all fun and good when really it is immoral and wrong. . .what happened to morals at all!?
I can't recall a more frustrating protagonist - maybe I haven't read enough YA to discover them. Seriously, grow up, get a backbone and a lot of common sense, a little self-esteem...Ever would be much more likable. Not a whole lot happens in this book, just a lot of setup for the next one.
Three books in, and I really don't care what happens to any of the characters. I already have the fourth book, so I'll read it just to see if it improves. It can only get better from here, right?
