This is book 5 in the Gardella Vampire Chronicles and i am so sad to have it be the last one. I wasn't quite sure about this series when i started book 1, but as I finished that book and kept going with the others I am a complete fan. I liked this series (including this book) because it was just enough Vampire, romance (not the detailed gore of some books), and adventure. It was a great mix. Don't know if anyone else will notice, but when i first saw the cover of "as shadows fade" i had a good idea of who Victoria would end up with. I didn't root for him until about book 4, then as it started to unravel I began to see why they would be the perfect match. I would and will recommend this to anyone I can.

I too enjoyed this series. It was a bit Buffy, Regency and Romance all wrapped up in one. The ending to the series wrapped things up nicely although you were still left with a bit of the discomfort that occurs when anyone finds themselves as the last to be chosen or in this case, not chosen at all. The main character showed herself to be a bit more frail in this book then the previous 4 but I enjoyed in none the less. Ms. Gleason has the ability to really believe in the characters, flaws and all. The indecision of youth is present as is the angst of being thrust into a leadership position despite being at the delicate age of 19 or 20. All in all it was a great combination of paranormal fantasy (because who wouldn't fantasize about a guy like Max) and realistic character development. Nicely done!
