Sarah McCarty's "Hell's Eight" series is fantastic...but this is NOT one of her best efforts.

McCarty doesn't even MENTION any of the assorted Hell's Eight characters (except Shadow) in this book until page 263. And in a book that's only 377 pages, that's a long time to wait for the plot to FINALLY get interesting!

Shadow deserved a great love, like his twin brother Tracker discovered with Ari in Tracker's Sin. What he found with Fei Yen just seemed boring & tame by comparison.

Perhaps it is the fault of the publisher--these books used to be published under the Harlequin Spice line, and as such were pretty steamy erotic fiction. Now, under the HQN line, they're incredibly tame & ho-hum.

Personally I just didn't feel this was the right story for Shadow. I wished for different action throughout & a different ending.

Not a bad book--I've definitely read worse! But just not as satisfying as I'd hoped either. I'm sorry I rushed right out to buy this one...it's NOT going on my keeper shelf!

After reading the reviews I thought I would hate this book but I actually really liked it. Yes, it was predictable and Shadow's way of pushing people away was a bit annoying but it was a fast read and quite entertaining.

I think Fei made the book for me. Being an Asian immigrant in US I understood some of the challenges she faced. Her strength and her survival skills were impressive.

The romance isn't exactly hot but it's very sweet. Good read.
