If this book had been better edited, I would've liked it better. It's long and wordy and convoluted and all that gets annoying.

Although the story is fascinating in itself, I found the most interesting thing about the book was the writing itself. I loved the way Rushdie slides into satire now and then and in general is just a fantastic writer.
This one I have to read again. This time instead of ripping through it in search of the story, I want to take the time to savor the writing.

One of the most engrossing novels I have ever read. The pathos and tragedy of the history setting seems to drive the "innocent" people to even more pathetic actions. More approachable by far than Satanic Verse, and more powerful because the characters are so real.
