Dear Readers,

I love all my stories and characters, but I must admit to a special fondness for tormented heroes who are healed by love. In my Fallen Angels series, no one is more tormented than Lord Michael Kenyon, so I'm delighted to see Shattered Rainbows reissued with this new cover.

Honed by danger and haunted by the past, Lord Michael finds it easy to risk his life for his country, but in the shadow of war, he faces a far more dangerous threat--the loss of his heart to the beautiful battlefield nurse who saves his life but can never be his.

Called a saint for her virtue and selfless courage, Catherine Melbourne alone knows the tragic flaw at the core of her life. In Michael Kenyon, she sees the strength and kindness she craves, yet for honor's sake she must send him away.

Then fate offers Catherine unexpected freedom, along with a fortune and a heritage for her daughter--if Michael will impersonate her husband on a vist to a wild island off the coast of Cornwall. Reluctantly he agrees to the masquerade. A simple journey leads them into a shattering vortex of danger and betrayal--and a fiercely passionate love that can no longer be denied.

Romantic Times magazine gave Shattered Rainbows a rare 41/2 Gold rating, and the story has always been a reader favorite. I hope you enjoy it, too.

Happy reading!

Mary Jo Putner

From the New York Times bestselling author comes a captivating tale about a lady and an earl who are shocked when a harmless masquerade turns into a shattering vortex of danger and betrayal-and a fiercely passionate love.

Enjoyable read. I have not always liked Mary Jo Putney's novels, but this one is one of the better, I think.

This is the 5th book in Putney's "Fallen Angels" series, which was written some time ago, but somehow I missed reading it until now. The hero, Michael, is a soldier, and the heroine, Catherine, is married to another soldier at the start of the book, and "follows the drum" during the Peninsular Wars. Their story stretches over several years, and quite a long section is about the battle of Waterloo, including great historical detail and battlefield descriptions. This is a complex and deeply emotional story, somewhat angsty but not painfully so. Both main characters have been through a lot in their lives and are very strong people. It was great to see them form a connection that is more than physical, although that is part of their love story. This book is not lighthearted, and develops slowly, but once I got into it I was engrossed. Just when you think things will settle down because the war is over, they had to go through another incredible harrowing adventure that tested their courage and loyalty to each other. I loved the subleties of the characters, none of them are cardboard cutouts. The heroine has a daughter from her first marriage who plays a great role, I'd love to see her grow up and star in her own story. I also became fascinated by Michael's friends who are the heroes of the other "Fallen Angels" books, which I definitely intend to seek out. 4.5 stars, one of the best by a very versatile and original writer.

Catherine had saved Lord Michael Kenyon on the battlefields of Europe. Now, she is standing in his London drawing room asking him to pretend to be her mate. Catherine is in line to inherit a title, an ancient home, and heritage--if she arrives on the Island of Skoal with her husband, who unbeknownst to Michael is dead.

This book should be rated at least 3 1/2 stars, perhaps 4 stars. I
did enjoy this book although she has written better ones.

Very good story. Did not read the rest of the Fallen Angels books, but it did very well on its own. Set in France and Great Britain, it has war and happiness woven all through it. The villain was unexpected at first but then you can see why. I like the chase, the way it was written (I'm being vague but I dont' want to spoil it) was very well done and not trite or cliche. I was really happy with this book and I think you will like it.

Be prepared for two books in one. The first book is a 'Prologue' and the second book is the rest of the story. I would have given it five stars except that the action in the second book was tedious. On the way to the happily ever after I skipped a lot of the action. Loved the H/H and supporting cast. Still recommending the whole series...best to start with the first one: Thunder & Roses.
