First I have to say that I read this for part of my 2009 challenge of new authors. I normally don't read regular mystery books (I prefer cozies) but when I started reading this I absoutely loved it. I even laughed aloud a few times while reading this book. So many twists and turns it left me guessing until the very end what exactly happened. I did feel the ending took a bit long to get to the conclusion, but when I closed the book, I did so with a smile on my face. I loved how she encompassed WW2 and the Nazi's in this book as well--unexpected little twist. Now that i've read this one, i'm going to go back and get the first 4 in the series. (My mom actually had this copy and lent it to me for my challenge) I'm hoping all her other Kathleen Mallory books are as good as this one was!!
I love Kathy Mallory and her cast of friends. Still my fav's are "Stone Angel"(Mallory's mom) and "Find Me,(?)" the story about Mallory's hunt for her father. Charles Butler is such a fascinating companion for Mallory and his "family," featured in this story, is as interesting as hers.
A man dies during the re-creation of a legendary magic trick. Millions of New Yorkers watching believe it was an accident, but not Kathleen Mallory -- she thinks it's a murderer who will strike again. Good read, great character.
A Kathleen Mallory mystery - very good.
