I was eager to begin this book, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, 1994, and the National Book Award, 1993. Fifteen minutes into it, it seemed to be headed somewhere I didn't want to go, so I abandoned the listening of it. Had I known it had been made into an R rated movie, I might have been forewarned.
Not my cup of tea.

The Shipping News is a lovely book. This is an abridged recording that lasts 4.5 hours but it done extremely well.
Very different! Held my interest!
I think this author's work is very lyrical and best experienced aloud - perfect for an audiobook. Very interesting, quirky characters and a realistic plot. If you saw the movie, don't judge it by that; the movie was horrible.
