My first Lisa jackson book and I would definitely read more. Fast and easy read but a plot line that was not ordinary, which I appreciated. Lots of romance, which I don't usually enjoy, but this was central to the story.

Shiver literally had me shivering! Lisa Jackson continues to keep me coming back for more.
This book was great! Abby Chastain feels she is following in her mother's footsteps, only that's not a good thing. Her mother was put in an asylum at a young age, the same age that Abby is now. Recently divorced, Abby's ex husband, a radio dj, blasts her on the airwaves and now he's dead. Now, all signs point to Abby. Only Det. Montoya believes that Abby is a target and not the killer. When murders start happening in pairs, all evidence leads Abby to the very asylum that held her mother. This is a fantastic story, it held my attention, and I can't wait to read another Montoya novel!
I have read many books by Lisa Jackson and I think she is amazing. Every book I read by her I finish within a couple of days. Makes you never want to put it down! Can't wait till the next one!

But now as an adult Abby is starting to wonder if it was suicide & she wants to know why that night continues to haunt her & what she can't remember. Now there is a serial killer & someone is watching Abby. Can detective Montoya figure it all out before it's too late?

This story has everything a pretty young woman, a serial killer, ties to an old mental hospital that was run by nuns and set in New Orleans. First Abby Chastain's Mom plunged to her death twenty years ago from the window at the mental hospitals where she was a patient as her young daughters witnessed it. Now Abby Chastain's ex-husband who as a radio talk show host just bad mouthed her over the airwaves, shortly afterwards he is found dead along with a young college student both of them found naked in an embrace but in real life never knew each other and then others are found dead. Either connected to Abby Chastain or Our Lady of Virtues Mental asylum which is no closed. This is a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, there were several times when I came home and sat out in the car listening to this story anxious to know what was going to happen next.

Abby Chastain left New Orlenas long ago and is back where she feels watched. It doesn't help when horrible crimes start happening and and the police come to ask questions. And to make it worse Detective Montoya is convinced she's somehow connected these crimes that have something to do with Our Lady of Virtues Mental Hospital where her mother died 20 years earlier. Good thriller that will keep you reading and wanting to find out what happens next.

This was my first book by this author. A serial killer plot with some romance thrown in. She left the door open for a follow-up. I definitely liked the MC(Montoya) and will read the next one.
The victims are killed in pairs---no connection, no apprarent motive, no real clues. Somebody's playing a sick game. As more bodes are found in gruesome, staged scenarios and the FBI moves in, Detective Montoya's in a desperate race to find a killer whose crimes are getting more terrifying, and closer all the time.
AWESOME BOOK,ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS
This book was so good and so riveting that I wanted to listen to the entire thing at one time.. of course I couldn't as it is 13 CDs in length. But the anticipation until I could get back to it would make my stomach hurt. No kidding! Excellent story telling!
Okay. different from her other books
This has to be my favorite of all the Jackson books!
Another winner by Lisa Jackson. I've read several of her books and have yet to be disappointed. Definitely good reading!!
A Page Turner. Compelling story that kept me reading into the night. Couldn't put this one down. A who done it!
Not a page turner, but an interesting read and a nice love angle to boot.
Thanks to years of working with the dark side of society. Detective Reuben "Diego" Montoya's youthful swagger is gone, replaced by straight forward determination. He'll need it, because a serial killer is turning the Big Easy into his personal playground. The victims are killed in pairs- no connection, no apparent motive, no real clues. His only lead is Abby Chastain, the ex-wife of one of one victims. Twenty years ago Abby watched in horror as her mother, apatient at a mental hospital plunged through a window to her death... and Abby always dreaded that she too would one day go insane. Something about Abby- her spirit and her honest fear- gets to Montoya. His gut tells him his prime suspect is innicent, just like it's telling him there's something significant about the once grand hospital now decaying in a gloomy thicket of ancient live oaks. Abby Chastain can help unlock the mystery- if only Montoya cna get her to trust him enough to face the ghosts of her past.
I love Lisa Jackson's books and this one did not disappoint.
enjoyed this book
Set in pre-Katrina New Orleans. Abby and her sister, Zoey, are adults - the same age as when their mother died. Abby has married and divorced. Luke had been a confirmed womanizer who even had an affair with Zoey while engaged to Abby. Thus, the sisters are estranged. Abby lives with her cat, Ansel, and makes her living as a freelance photographer. She is haunted by memories of visits to Our Lady of Virtues and her mother's sudden death.
Detective Reuben Montoya, whom we met in Hot Blooded and Cold Blooded, appears when he is called to one of the most gruesome crime scenes he has ever encountered. Two people are dead - Luke has been shot and a young woman dressed in a bridal gown lies on top of him. Some would like to consider this a murder/suicide, but Montoya knows better - and so does all of New Orleans when another double murder scene is found.
The detective's only clues lead him to Abby, Luke's widow, and the now deserted mental hospital. Who or what could be capable of such heinous crimes?
Author Jackson keeps readers on the edges of their chairs, totally engrossed by a compelling plot line. She's a pro at blending romance with suspense, which continues to earn fans.

This will keep you guessing to the end. Great read.
Another great story by Lisa Jackson. Very interesting, hard to put down.
great story and memorable characters
A serial killer killing victims in pairs-Ms. Jackson is always a treat to read, but this very well may be her best yet!
A good continuation using Montoya's character. It kept me guessing to the end.
great book - keeps you guessing
A good mystery that ends in romance but not a romance book.
It was good and had a surprise ending.
Entertaining mystery read
Lisa Jackson did it again.....could not put this one down...kept me on the edge of my seat....great read!!!!
This is my first Lisa Jackson book and I actually liked it, to a certain extent. I found the crimes and the twists and turns to be very good, exciting, and kept the reader/listener guessing right up to the very end. What I didn't like was her rambling on in the romance/lovemaking parts. I actually ended up fast forwarding through a couple of sections of that. I mean, if I want romance, I'll read a romance book...not crime drama. Anyway, it was a pretty good book to listen to on the way to and from work every day.
Wonderful story - twisitng tale that kept me interested until the end!

Lisa Jackson, one of my favorite authors, delivers another spine-chilling tale set in New Orleans. A serial killer is turning the Big Easy into his personal playground. The victims are killed in pairs - no connection, no apparent motive, no real clues. It is a very sick game and it has only just begun. Abby Chastain and Detecdtive Reuben Montoya are in a desperate race to stop a killer and Abby may be the catalyst.
I enjoyed this book and am anxious for the next one to answer so questions left hanging.
First time I've read this author and enjoyed it!

This is one of the best books by Lisa! I finished it in about 6 hours of continuous reading, I just could not put it down!
Very suspenseful but not gorey - a definite psychological thriller. Though this book was almost 500 pages, I breezed through it, unable to put it down. It was very good and I can't wait to read the sequel, Absolute Fear, due out in spring of 2007.
This was a great book but,not one of her best. Brings back characters from previous novels. This is a prequel to a book that will be released in April and it leaves you wanting to know what happens next. I enjoyed the book, but had no trouble putting it down when I had to.
This is a good read and will keep you on the edge of your seat.
The crimes are unthinkable, the fear is real and the truth is deadly. Dect. Montoya and Betz are at it again. New Orleans is turned upside down looking for a killer who seems to be avenging a 20 year old accident. Was the death of Faith Chastain all it seemed to be? Excellent story.
Excellent! I can't wait for the sequel to be released!

very powerful book, enjoyed it. This is the first book I have ever read from Miss.Jackson and I will read her again in a heart beat.Check out If she only knew, Cold blooded, Deep Freeze just to name a few
Great read--I enjoy every book I read by Lisa Jackson.
Good book.
Good good mystery, and scary, which I like. Loved the characters.
Pretty good book if you like a lot of romance splashed in with an excellent mystery!
From Publishers Weekly
Set in pre-Katrina New Orleans, the new romantic thriller by bestseller Jackson, her first to be published in hardcover, fits all the usual pieces into all the usual holes. A psycho sexual serial killer stalks victims connected to an insane asylum, shut down 20 years earlier but still standing in all its creepy abandonment. Abby Chastain, a portrait photographer on the rebound from a bad divorce, is trying to wean herself off men. Det. Reuben Montoya, the virile, not-by-the-book cop (last seen in 2002's Cold Blooded), is assigned to track down the serial killer. Along the way, Montoya developsagainst his better judgmenta soft spot for the libido-tingling Chastain, now in peril because her mother was either murdered or committed suicide at the old asylum just before it closed. Fans of the prolific Jackson (Fatal Burn) should be pleased, but those unfamiliar with the conventions of romance fiction should be prepared for characters who "growl" rather than simply "say" and descriptions of physical beauty along the lines of a "body that wouldn't quit."
