I liked this book even more than the movie. I've enjoyed all of Jennifer Weiner's books and this was one of my favorites. There is a really interesting section in the middle that never made it into the movie that I enjoyed very much. I would recommend you read this book even if you've seen the movie. :)

An interesting light read. The three intertwined stories are individually good, but overlap in wonderful ways.

This is my favorite book. Weiner is a very talented writer. She does a wonderful job of paralleling the characters, using symbolism, and delving into the female psyche all while maintaining an uncanny sense of humor.

this book has been referred to as being "hilarious," well I found it to be anything but hilarious. It's about two sisters and their journey back to each other. Rose is quiet and reserved, itelligent and a lawyer, her sister ( Maggie) is gorgeous, not exactly brainy, men flock all over her, she mooches, in inconsiderate... To get back at her sister for being so good she decides to sleep with Rose's boyfriend. Rose finds them in bed and orders both of them out of her life. Maggie has no where to turn and ends up homeless for some time...So, it's not exactly your hahahahaha every moment type of book. The writing is rich and the storyline is good.

I really enjoyed reading this one, apparently i am one of very very few who did. Maybe its simply because the books starts out a little slow and dry but once you really get into it. It forms a fast pace and an ending the truely makes you want to read more! And it Definatly makes you think. In her shoes is the perfect title for the books because not only should we try to put ourselves in someone else's shoes from time to time but The one sister Maggie really does litterally steal her sisters shoes lol.
Happy reading everyone!

Maggie and Rose are a little cliched at the beginning of the book, ones fat ones thin ones pretty the others plain ones a smarty the oter has a learning disability. Once the book gets going the neat little pigeon holed characters start to turn into more of a realistic portrait of the sisters and how they need eachother dispite the differences that keep them apart.

The story is about 2 sisters, Maggie and Rose. Maggie is drop dead gorgeous but not very bright due to learning disabilities. Rose is overweight and plain but smarta lawyer. Maggie is always in trouble. Credit, evictions, no job. Rose is always bailing her out. But when Maggie sleeps with Rosess boyfriend, that is the last straw. Maggie knows it so she takes off for somewhere to hide. Princeton. First she seduces a guy and steals his money and credit cards. Then she hides in the library. She meets some friends, gets a job and even sneaks into some classes. Meanwhile, Rose and Maggie's Grandmother are in Florida. The girls father wrote Ella off after her daughter (their mother Catherine) died. Maggie finds out she has a grandmother and heads to florida after the guy she seduces finds her. Roses life has also changed. Mortified after her sister sleeps with her boyfriend (her boss at the law firm) she goes on leave and gets a job as a dog walker. She starts dating Simon (Another lawyer) and they fall in love and get engaged. The story has its ups and downs but the ending is happy.

This is a feel good story, quite a cute piece of work. Was made into a movie or visa versa. Sisters, an aunt, shows one sister long suffering the other completely irresponsible and a burden to the other one. Loved the Shirley McLaine aunt character and the peek at retirement living in FL. Good character studies and comedy.

This is a good book about three women, Rose and Maggie Feller, two sisters who are very different from each other in every way imaginable, and Ella Hirsch, their grandmother, whom they haven't seen since their mother's funeral when they were young girls. I saw the movie before I read the book, but I'm glad I read the book because much was changed and left out of the film. This is one of those feel-good books where everything works out in the end, filled with great supporting characters.

: I really enjoyed this light and breezy read. Two sisters, Maggie and Rose have nothing much in common except a tragic childhood and they wear the same size shoe. Rose is the steady one and Maggie the irresponsible free spirit. When Maggie is evicted from her apartment and moves in with Rose she sets into motion a series of events that will make both sisters take another look at their lives. This was a fun read and my first book by Weiner. The ending was a little too perfect, but aside from that minor complaint I really had fun reading the book.

It took me a while to like Maggie, one of the main characters. She was so shallow, such a lying, stealing, self-centered person. Yet, thorughout the book she underwent some amazing changes and become a most likable character. Looking back, you can see that her former personality was due to the harshness of her childhood and manifested as her way of dealing with things. Of becoming the person everyone had said she was. A very good read. Kept me hooked through to the end.

Rose is a thirty-year old attorney with a secret passison for romance novels. She will start exercising next week..maybe. She dreams of a man who will slid her glasses off and tell her she is beautiful. Maggie is twenty eight and drop dead gorgeous. Her stardom hasn't gone past her hip's appearance in a music video, she dreams of fame and fortune. These two sisters claim to have nothing in common but DNA and a shared shoe size, but when they are forced into cohabitation, they just might learn they are more alike then they thought. A book you should read if you are a sister or you have a sister.

As I was sitting on the couch reading this book, my boyfriend was watching tv. Up popped an ad for the film version of this book, starring Cameron Diaz as Maggie and Toni Collette as Rose. Somehow I fear they will fail to capture the sentiment and wonderfulness of this book.

Jennifer Weiner presents the story of two sisters who are polar opposites: Rose was a nerd growing up, is heavier (and happy about it--she never complains about or seems to struggle with her weight), and has always been driven toward success. Her sister Maggie has dyslexia, is thin and stunning, and seeks fame and fortune. Through the novel they fight, as surely all sisters who are close do. But their friendship and love for each other is forged through common bonds: they rely on each other for one thing or another, lived through the death of their mother, and have been criticized by their stepmother Sydelle.

The story is an enjoyable one, and can be read quickly. I kept wanting to go back to it.

Meet Rose Feller. She's thirty years old and a high-powered attorney with a secret passion for romance novels. She dreams of a man who will slide off her glasses, gaze into her eyes, and tell her that she's beautiful. She also dreams of getting her fantastically screwed-up little sister to get her life. together.

Meet Rose's sister, Maggie. Twenty-eight years old, drop-dead gorgeous and only occasionally employed. Although her dreams of big-screen stardom haven't progressed, Maggie dreams of fame and fortune -- and of getting her dowdy big sister to stick to a skin-care regime.

These two women with nothing in common but childhood tragedy, shared DNA, and the same size feet, are about to learn that their family is more different than they ever imagine, and that they're more alike, than they'd ever believe. In Her Shoes observes Rose and Maggie, the brain and the beauty, as they make journeys of discovery. Along the way, the'll encounter a wild cast of characters and they'll borrow shoes and clothes and boyfriends, and make peace with their most intimate enemies -- each other.

Funny and poignant, In Her Shoes will speak to anyone who has endured the bonds of big -- or little -- sisterhood, or longed for a life different from the one the world has dictated, and dreamed of trying something else on for size.

Rose and Maggie, raised by a vicious stepmother and an insensitive father, grow up with problems. Rose becomes a lawyer and a drudge; Maggie is an actress wannabe who never quite makes it and relies on stodgy Rose to bail her out of the scrapes she gets into. The relationship of the sisters through the years is the focus of this novel, which explores the difficulties of being part of a family that is seething with resentment, grief, and pain.

Loved this book--I am now a Jennifer Weiner addict. The movie(which I watched after I finished the book) was good, but not nearly as good as the book. Twenty-eight-year-old Maggie Fuller relies on her looks and size zero body to flirt her way through life while working dozens of dead-end jobs and dreaming of stardom. At the other end of the spectrum is her older, larger sister, Rose, who relies on her intelligence and is an accomplished attorney at a large Philadelphia firm. The only things that these two seem to have in common is their shared history, a loathing for their "stepmonster," Sydelle, size six feet and a passion for luxurious shoes. When Maggie is evicted from her apartment and loses yet another job, Rose takes her in and tries to endure her closet raids and endless insults. But her patience abruptly ends when Maggie crosses a line so sacred that Rose kicks Maggie out and all but terminates their relationship ("Her sister was like a fucking Weebel, [Rose] thought. She'd wobble, she'd screw up, she'd steal your shoes... but she'd absolutely never fall down"). The sisters go on with their lives and Maggie discovers that she has a brain and a will to learn, while Rose learns to loosen up a bit and finds that there is more to life than work. The two sisters also get to know their maternal grandmother, Ella Hirsch, who they haven't seen since their mother's funeral more than 20 years ago. With Ella's love and support, Maggie reaches out to Rose and the two begin to repair their relationship. In the end, these three remarkable women learn that they are stronger than they thought they were, that family ties are worth preserving, and that there are perks to sharing the same shoe size. Weiner, a marvelously natural storyteller, blends humor and heartbreak to create an irresistible novel.

The Feller sisters are equal but opposite. Maggie is the good-looking, dyslexic little sister who knows how to get anything she wants--but not how to keep it. She "felt as if somewhere between the ages of fourteen and sixteen she'd walked off the edge of a cliff and had been falling ever since." Rose is the plump, practical, responsible older sister who knows about law but not much about her own happiness: "What did she like, besides shoes, and Jim, and foods that were bad for her?" When Maggie's latest eviction lands her in Rose's apartment, and Maggie insults Rose by seducing one of her sister's rare boyfriends, what follows is a chain of events by turns hilarious and heartbreaking. Embarrassed Rose evicts Maggie and begins a work sabbatical leading to a new livelihood and way of living. Maggie flees and runs away to Princeton. Masquerading as a student, she learns to love poetry and saves money for a trip to Miami--and a visit to a long-lost grandmother named Ella who might offer her a last shot at sanctuary. But In

She also dreams of getting her fantastically screwed-up, semi-employed little sister to straighten up and fly right. Meet Rose's sister, Maggie. Twenty-eight years old and drop-dead gorgeous. Although her big-screeen stardom hasn't progressed past her left hip's appearance in a Will Smith video, Maggie dreams of fame and fortune---and of getting her big sister on a skin-care regimen. Maggie and Rose Feller, are sisters two years apart, and they couldn't be more different. Rose, the older of the two, is an established lawyer at a prominent Philadelphia firm. She is responsible, intelligent, homely, and successful--and she has a secret penchant for romance novels. Maggie, her younger sister, is her complete opposite: beautiful, outgoing, carefree, learning disabled, and irresponsible. Maggie can't keep a job or an apartment for longer than a month, and she dreams of becoming a famous actress. In fact, the only things the sisters have in common are a familial loss, a shoe size, and a dislike for their frigid stepmother, who's way too into plastic surgery.

What a great chic read! This is the story of Rose Feller, an average looking woman who has accomplished much according to the world's standards and her sister, Maggie, who would be considered by most to be a low life. This is a journey of two sisters not to be missed. This had been made into a motion picture that was fairly well done, but, as always, not nearly as good as the book.

The writing here is not fantastic, but the style meets the needs of character development, making it worth your time.

This is my first Jennifer Weiner book and I had high hopes. My friend Sara said it was a good one...

The book started on a risqué and yet high note. It made me chuckle a little bit and than at the same time as I read on a little sad. Maggie defiantly has some issues to have herself used the way she does. Reading further the relationship between Maggie and Rose touched a little bit
close to the relationship I share with my sibling. It is not exact and we are not set fully like the pair but I could defiantly relate and that does make the book a little closer to home for myself and probably others.

While I found the book enjoyable it wasn't one that I couldn't put down. It was just okay. Not bad not good, just there. I got a little lost at some of the chapter switches but that could have been my own personal lack of focus. And while I did not think the book was fantastic I will be giving the author another shot and I will defiantly read some more of her books and see where they go.

I enjoyed reading the book. The fun was realizing that not only does the title imply that one sister wears the other sister's shoes but also that they "walked in each other shoes" in a manner of speaking -- concerning the path of growth each took in the story. Except for the sexual scenes, it would be a good book for young teenage girls to read and discuss with their Mom's.

I'll just say this book is alright. The dichotomy between the sisters was so cliche: Skinny, flightly size 0 standing in stark contrast to her dumpy, frumpy, overly intellectual sister. ...And of course there's the sappy reunion at the end. The addition of the kindly estranged grandmother helped keep it from being an utter joke. The writing was decent and the plot moved along at a respectable pace.

I left this on the shelf unread for a couple of years because I thought it would be a chick-lite piece of fluff. It wasn't what I expected and I have to say I really enjoyed this book. I even shed a couple of tears. It was very well written.
