I absolutely love cats - their aloof nature, snuggling on a cold day, the purring, and their refusal to be at their human's beck and call.

I had two cats when I got married, and only when the last one died 15 years into our marriage did my sweet husband confess that he's allergic to them! Since I love my husband, no more cats for us, but I miss having one every. single. day. So I thoroughly enjoyed reading Shop Cats of New York by Tamar Arslanian with photos by Andrew Marttila. I was aware of the practice of NYC bodegas having cats and book shop cats of course, but didn't realize a wide variety of New York businesses have resident felines.

This beautiful coffee table book chock full of vibrant photographs profiles more than 40 shop cats in their natural environments which combine business (customer relations, employee relations, rodent control, etc.) and leisure. It was delightful to meet these cats and their humans, learn their origin stories, and read about the ways they improve their little corner of the world. This is a must read for cat lovers, and borrowing it from my library was the purr-fect option.
