I read the entire series many times as a kid. I loved these books & so did my daughter. I recommend this series for all kids who need a break from the sci-fi/fantasy/cartoon books that are out there now.

Who doesn't love reading the old Laura Ingalls books? Frontier family stories & adventures, simple lives, and the raw frontier in the 1800's. Great family reading!

The Ingalls family had fared badly in Plum Creek, Minnesota. They were in debt. Mary was blind now. So Pa went West to work at a railroad camp in Dakota Territory where he could make as much as fifty dollars a month! Then he sent for his wife and four children, and they became the first settlers in the new town of DeSmet. But the railroad brought hordes of land-hungry people from the West. Had Pa waited too long to file his homestead claim?

Very enjoyable. We learn about homesteading and how things all went down in the Dakotas in order to gain your own land. It was pretty adventurous. I just love how kind and loving the Ingalls are. You really fall in love with their family life and how selfless they each try to be. Laura is growing up and tries out new things (like riding ponies bareback and driving horses), we get a slight glimpse of how Carrie is now that she is older, and the other changes that occurs to other members in the family. It was really wonderful.
