I thought it was a fairly interesting piece of fiction. It definitely was enjoyable, and I read it fairly quickly. It was my first Ted Dekker novel and I enjoyed it. Up until the very end, I thought the plot was very unique. I gave it 4 and a half stars.

Very exciting. I thought it a tad slow at first, but the pace picks up rather quickly. Or rather, I started turning the pages quickly. As the first reviewer has said, there *are* some parts of graphic violence. I would not recommend this for children to read. Or the easily frightened (although personally I found it to be more of a thriller at worst, and I'm a real baby when it comes to horror stories).

written in the old style of Koontz--scary, creepy, evil--couldn't put it down

This book was kind of weird...just not my thing I guess. A little too creepy for me, I almost didn't finish it but I hate starting a book and not finishing it. If you like a little bit of creepiness then you'd probably like it.

Just not as impressed with this book as some of his other books! Sort of had to force myself to finish it!

Ted Dekker is becoming a formulaic writer... This book starts out exactly the same as Blessed Child: an orphan boy in a monastery from infancy, who is very smart and a key factor in the battle of good and evil. Since I liked the Circle series, I finished this book but have no intentions of reading any more in the Books of History series. His descriptions of battles were graphic, bloody and gory, with the victims being children. Just don't have the stomach for this type of story. There were too many scenes that repeated previous ones I've read by him, as well. Time to move on... D.

For the others of us who don't care to be grossed out I want to warn that this book is not for all Christians. It had quite a bit of unacceptable crudeness.
