The plot of this story was entertaining. It was the characters that were a drag here. The main character/victim is a sniveling, weak woman. Granted, her reasons are valid, but she essentially can't function because she is so afraid when she really just needs to stand up for herself. Meanwhile, the female detective is likable (especially in regards to her feelings toward her dog), but she too doesn't kick a** in quite the way you are lead to believe she will. Ultimately, both female characters are too weak to do much without the help of a man. Most sad.
