Great...Sister Fidelma does it again...in Rome(and for the Pope) this time she solves a murder that could ignite war.
As always impeccable research and an interesting plot combine to make this a very good read
Great characters in an historical mystery. Superb enjoyment.
This is not only a fun murder mystery, but it provides a glimpse into the conflict between the Irish church and the Roman church later known as Pelagianism.

A little faster paced than the debut, this second volume of Tremayne's series set in ancient Ireland finds Sister Fidelma and Brother Eadulf in Rome, where they are asked to investigate the murder of an archbishop. Tremayne is a master at twisting a puzzle yet giving the reader enough clues to figure out the solution, and the world of the 7th century is utterly fascinating.
As a historical fiction/mystery fan and of Irish descent I find this series intriguing. Peter Tremayne uses the detective thriller to educate on what could be dry history. I intend to read the entire series.

In the first book of this series, I figured out quickly who the killer was. In this one, I didn't know until the end. But then, not only did it make sense, but, having read the first book, I should have figured it out. Duh!
A good mystery. Enjoyable in set in Rome, this book blends history, relgion at the time and murder into a twisting tale. But Sister Fidelma and Brother Eadulf will solve the mystery and learn more about them selves, their homelands and of Rome.
As with the other Sister Fidelma books I've read, the history is interesting, as are the politics between the Roman and Irish churches, as they began to clash. The mysteries are not always completely obvious, but the writing is a tad repetitive. (I can't tell you how much I want to buy her a hair clip to pin back that single rebellious lock of red hair!) Overall, it's a good book.
I really enjoyed Sister Fidelma and how she solveds her puzzles. Close reading helps one figure out who done it in this book.
