This was the best of the first four to me. The series is getting a little better as I continue reading the books. The character is developing and I believe this will just get better; time will tell.

My copy has a different cover than the one shown on PBS. "Two student nurses lay dead, the great hospital nursing school of Nightingale House was shadowed with terror, and a secret medical world of sex, shame, and scandal was about to be exposed. It was the job of Adam Dalgliesh of Scotland Yard to probe even deeper into the macabre mystery, and unmask the killer who operated has skillfully as a surgeon before the epidemic of evil got completely out of hand." I am a great fan of every one of Ms. James books, this is no exception.

Ah, P.D. James does it again. Not one murderer but two. Two nurses die in a teaching hospital and Adam Daigliesh has to figure it all out. The suspects are many - student nurses, teaching nurses, two doctors and a pharmacist. It appears that any one of the them could have murdered the young women. Once the inspector and his sidekick, Masterson, gather all the pieces the puzzle begins to take shape. The answer is stranger than you think. It's a very good mystery and I couldn't help but keep reading late into the night as I neared the end.

Adam Dalgliesh always involves a mesmerizing British intrigue to all his adventures. This one is no exception.

This is set in late 1960's england in a suburb outside london. For those of you who like Agatha Christie stories, this is for you. And especially, for those of you who are nurses and ever experienced some nightmarish (or maybe not) times in nursing school, this is an interesting mystery.
