Great book. You must read the entire series if you read this one. And the reunion book "October Song."

good introduction to the Amish culture. I learned alot even though I grew up not far from Amish and Mennonite communities. But the idea that a baby adopted into that culture would not "fit in" cause she wasn't born into an Amish family is ridiculous--religion is not a genetic trait!

I read this for a TBR potluck activity in my online book club, The Reading Cove.

I think 'The Stretching' would be a better title! The plot was rail thin, so it felt like the author was trying to make a dollar out of fifteen cents.

Super predictable. Stevie Wonder could see where things were headed within the first chapter. Nothing to sink your teeth into....And I thought the narrative style was overly simplistic; something I might've enjoyed as an adolescent.

So I give THE SHUNNING a C, it's average.

Amish woman Katie Lapp finds a fancy satin baby gown in the attic that changes everything. What are her parents hiding? Who is Katherine Mayfield, and who is the red-haired "English" lady looking for her? Katie must discover the truth, and finds herself in the journey.

This is the first book in the trilogy; the second is The Confession, and the third is The Reckoning.

A little "preachy" and too coincidental in parts, but overall, the series is a sweet, entertaining story about Katie and her loves, losses, and new life.

A shocking revelation sends Katie Lapp's world spiraling out of her control. A wonderfully written story of sacrifice, secrets, and new beginnings. This was the 1st Beverly Lewis book I read, since then I have read them all ( except for the cookbook).
