After reading the first chapter of this book, I set it aside with no intention to pick it up again as I thought it was taking me on a path I did not want to explore. The next day my heart was softened and I decided to give the book another try and I am so grateful that I read this book.
If you ever have thought that you really knew your child or other family member, especially if the relationship has been strained or full of conflict, this book will teach you that you never really know that person unless you have taken time to listen to them and to explore and learn about their world.
This book made me sad and weep for the chasm that sometimes develops in families when one member does not "follow the path" that the rest of the family would like them to follow. A person's worth does not always come from the external things that so often the world sees as being important but rather from the deeds of the person in question.
The message of this book filled me with a strong desire to be a better wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt and to leave the world a far better person than I am at the present time.

I will agree with LaVonne- this book left me wanting to be a better person than what I was before I read it. I cried over this book because the story is so poignant and when you read the blurb in the back section of the book, you see that some of it is based on facts from Ms. Kingsbury's own life. Some books just draw you into the story as if you were there experiencing all that the characters do and this is certainly one of those types of books. Highly recommend!

This is a very good book. The kind you can not put down, with a surprise in the middle. It gives hope to parents
and grandparents who are not close to their adult children and grandchildren. I highly recommend it.

This is an excellent book. It is the first Karen Kingsbury book I've read and it won't be the last! I loved the characters, especially Josh. I found this book to be thought provoking, especially about the issue of success. What defines success in God's eyes? What defines success in our world? This is a book I will re-read again.
This like all of her books draws you in and you feel like you are part of the store. She is a wonderful story teller .Loved it
Just recently finished this book. Really got my emotions going! It is extrememly poignant; very, very typical of Karen Kingsbury. I enjoyed it. Would certainly recommend it.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this book. On of Karen Kingsbury's best. Have tissue paper ready when you read it. We did a book club on it, and it touched everyone who read it, especially mothers of teenage/young adult boys. Thank you Karen for sharing such a personal story.
Marvelous book. Really makes you look at how you treat people and examine if you just see the surface of them or if you really see what is inside. Also, do you only see your assumptions of what and who they are, or do you really see who they are? Do you truly listen to them or do you only hear what you want to hear?
This book made me cry a couple of times but also made me so happy at how it all turned out. I especially like how Josh's mom turned around. A great book to read, I highly recommend it.

Have a tissue handy: Unexpected twists and heartwrenching situations make this a book you just cannot lay down until you reach the end!
I LOVED this book! I finished the entire thing in two days, even staying up past 1:00 in the morning to finish it. I just couldn't bring myself to put it down.
I loved this story. It just reminds us how fragile life is and that we need not take any of it for granted.
The story went at excepted and there was no really big surprises. Yet, I like the lessons that were in the book. I also like how Kingsbury gives true emotions to her books. I laughed and I cried. It was like the characters were real.
This was yet another Karen Kingsbury fantastic read. Seeing the story unfold through Karen's pen/writing is a wonder. Though I could see the ending coming I still continued to read each line meticulously. Mrs. Kingsbury's books make you think, pray, cry and yearn for the Savior.
EXCELLENT BOOK I LOVE THE WRITINGS OF KAREN ESPECIALLY THIS SERIES AS I HAVE A DOWNS SYNDROME DAUGHTER, COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN, CRIED AND LAUGHTER I WAS THERE WITH CODY.
