This is one of my all time favorite books that I read as a child. I love it! It is so funny. I look all the funny characters in the book and how each chapter tells you about them. The silly thing is most classes have characters like this! Wonderful book and I love the fact that there are a few more Sideways Stories to go along with it!

This is a great book. I used it to help my daughter read chapter books. This is a collection of short stories that when read in order tell the story of the school year at this funny and strange school. My daughter laughed at the end of each very short story and couldn't wait to read more. This version of the book does have smaller printing than other versions.

Even before the first-period bell, the listener can tell from Wilson's wacky tone that something funny is going on at Wayside School. Each short story profiles a student in Wayside's silliest classroom. A very cute childern's book!

The Wayside School was supposed to be one story high, with 30 classrooms side by side; instead, it was built sideways, with 30 one-classroom stories. As befits such a strange school, these tales are a bit strange too. In one, Jason is stuck to his seat by a large wad of chewing gum. His teacher tries throwing ice water on him (to chill the gum to brittleness) and turning him upside down. She even contemplates cutting his pants off. Finally, though, he falls from his upside-down position when kissed (ugh!) by one of the girls in the class. Other tales include a bit of a moral, such as the story of Kathy, whose assumption that no one will ever like her is proved right, or the story of Bebe, who draws quickly but without artistic merit. The quirky humor in this book is appealing to children, and it makes a good read-aloud book for the younger set. (Ages 5 to 12)

From the cover - There'd been a terrible mistak. Wayside School was supposed to be built with thirty classrooms all next to each other in a row. Instead, they built the classrooms one on top of the other... thirty stories tall! (The builder said he was cery sorry.)

That may be why all kinds of funny things happen at Wayside School... especially on the thirtieth floor. You'll meet Mrs. Gorf, the meanest teacher of all, terrible Todd, who always gets sent home early, and John who can read only upside down- along with all the other kids in the crazy mixed-up school that came out sideways. But you'll never guess the truth about Sammy, the new kid... or what's in store for Wayside school on Halloween!
