This is one of my favorite series of all time, but I did not love this book quite as much as I usually do Briggs' titles because Adam and Mercy were apart for almost the whole novel. It was great to see lots of familiar characters interacting in new places and in new ways, but I prefer a straightforward good guy/bad guy/monster fight to subtle political machinations in my escapist fantasy reading.

Not as good as the ones before it.

Another outing fraught with danger for Mercy. I enjoyed the trip to Prague and I really liked the golem, very cool. I thought Marsilia and Jacob were not depicted nearly as dangerous as they should have been - especially Jacob. I find it odd that after thousands of years, it seems there's never been a witch-vampire before? Unless I missed something. I liked the surprise cameo at the end. But it does seem to me that Mercy ought to be thinking about bodyguards at this point. I know she's stubborn but how many times do you have to be assaulted and nearly die before you admit you are in bodily danger from pretty much everyone? Or perhaps a ward from Elizaveta, they've got the money to pay her. Well anyway, despite needing some extra suspension of disbelief, it's still an exciting adventure.

Mercy has issues with her bond (again) and is abducted (again). Would like to read something new. The difference is this: she is taken to Europe and Adam and allies must travel to her. Mercy saves herself and gets caught (again). The master vamp of Europe and the alpha of Prague are introduced (more characters to keep track of!).
While I did like this (when it was all said and done), I don't think it did anything regarding furthering Mercy's story-line.
