This is one of my favorite series of all time, but I did not love this book quite as much as I usually do Briggs' titles because Adam and Mercy were apart for almost the whole novel. It was great to see lots of familiar characters interacting in new places and in new ways, but I prefer a straightforward good guy/bad guy/monster fight to subtle political machinations in my escapist fantasy reading.

Another outing fraught with danger for Mercy. I enjoyed the trip to Prague and I really liked the golem, very cool. I thought Marsilia and Jacob were not depicted nearly as dangerous as they should have been - especially Jacob. I find it odd that after thousands of years, it seems there's never been a witch-vampire before? Unless I missed something. I liked the surprise cameo at the end. But it does seem to me that Mercy ought to be thinking about bodyguards at this point. I know she's stubborn but how many times do you have to be assaulted and nearly die before you admit you are in bodily danger from pretty much everyone? Or perhaps a ward from Elizaveta, they've got the money to pay her. Well anyway, despite needing some extra suspension of disbelief, it's still an exciting adventure.

Not as good as the ones before it.

Mercy has issues with her bond (again) and is abducted (again). Would like to read something new. The difference is this: she is taken to Europe and Adam and allies must travel to her. Mercy saves herself and gets caught (again). The master vamp of Europe and the alpha of Prague are introduced (more characters to keep track of!).
While I did like this (when it was all said and done), I don't think it did anything regarding furthering Mercy's story-line.

It literally picks up where the last one left off.
Kidnapped, held hostage and mind games will happen literally within an hour of Mercy in Adam's SUV getting T-boned, close to death, and held somewhere in Europe, were pack and mate bonds are pretty much non existent for Mercy. Some big wig vampire with past ties to Scooby Doo cartoon watching Stefan and his coven's Mistress has taken Mercy because of some bad/messed up word exchange declaring Mercy is the most powerful person in her town... can she get out of her situation with or with out Adam's help??? Will she find more problems she gets caught in??? Will werewolves, vampires and goblins come together for a rescue mission???? I small spoiler Bran is in disguise a total opposite of his Alpha stance as to a weaken submissive wold names Matt Smith... told in Mercy, Adam's and âMatt' POV with small time lines in certain chapters to let you know when something happens and when something else happens before or after the previous chapter.
