This is a most compelling story told by a young girl about her experiences and friendship with a young boy who has limited mental abilities. She understands him and enjoys the time she spends with him. It's so charming. I truly enjoyed the storyl, sad thought the ending is.

This is an excellent book--very well written; though it is not for children. Some of the content, while not inappropriate, is too mature for young ones. Lois Lowry books tend to have a lot of deep content, as opposed to the `fluff' that makes up most children's literature today. Several other good books by Ms. Lowry are "The Giver," "Gathering of Blue" and "Number the Stars."
