SILENT PREY is the fourth book in the "Lucas Davenport" series, and I thought it was a worthwhile read. This novel is an unofficial sequel to EYES OF PREY, and features the same serial killer villain, who breaks out of prison to terrorize New York. So my first piece of advice is to read EYES OF PREY before reading this novel.
This book is well written, but I thought there was too much plot. Not only is Davenport on the trail of a serial killer, but he's also after a group of police vigilantes known as the "Robin Hoods." The vigilante plot is convoluted and complex, and I had some problems keeping all the names and plotlines straight. The serial killer stuff is essentially a retread of what you read in EYES OF PREY -- the killer pretty much thinks and acts the same way as he did in the prior book. So there's nothing new or original here.
Sandford's a fine writer, but I thought this effort was a relative disappointment compared to some of his other Prey books.

Be aware this is NOT a new novel, it was originally published in 1992 and has apparently been republished.

Great follow-up novel to Eyes of Prey. The series moves from the frigid Twin Cities to the gritty and muggy streets of New York. The marquis storyline is good enough to carry the lackluster subplot.
I had to go back and read this one again. Two thumbs up!
Once, Bekker indulged his brillant obsession with death; now he is in prison. Once, he was hunted by a man who understood the genius of murder; now he wants revenge.....Lieutenant Davenport should have killed Bekker when he had the chance...Because today, Bekker escapes.
this is one of the best give it a try you will love it
John Sanford puts a lot of suspense and detail in each subject. Lucas Davenport is a detective/computer game designer) who is not only good looking, a little macho, but is able to figure out the process of the crime where others find it difficult. Very engaging character...you won't want to put the book down.

This is the fourth book in the Prey series. Not one of my favorites. It is the continuation of the previous book. Becker escapes from prison and is on the run wreaking havoc and the bodies pile up. I really didn't care for the ending either. Just an okay read for this book.
a interesting follow up with the villian bekker from eyes of prey. Good stuff all the way

Wow. Another twisted ending in a book about Davenport chasing Bekker. I kept giong back and forth with who the 'bad/good' guy was. The way Bekker was escaping setection was interseting and suprising.
Great read! Scary!!!
Another Lt. Davenport adventure! Lt. Davenport should have killed Bekker instead of putting him in prison. Once, Bedder indulged his brilliant obsession with death; now he is in prison. Once, he was hunted by a man who understood the genius of murder; now he wants revenge...Today, Bekker escapes.
Very good read.
A crime thriller about a escaped serial killer pursued by the tough smart detective (who isn't afraid to play by his own rules when he needs to) that caught him the first time.
This one was REALLY good. I like all the Lucas Davenport books, but this one is exceptionally good. The character of Lucas Davenport becomes more established and he is very likeable.
A continuation of the "battle" between Davenport and Bekker. Be sure to read the Prey series in order. The characters appear in later books and it's a more interesting read when you recognize them.
every book in this series is exciting and enjoyable
I love all of the books in the Prey series.
Another great read in the Lucas Davem[prt series. This one will keep you up wondering what will happen next.

I am loving this series. I actually held my breath at the end. Starting the next one now.
This is a great series
Book 4 of the Lucas Davenport series and a continuation of the storyline involving Bekker the baddie from Eyes of Prey. This book takes Davenport to NY to assist one of his old flames on the Bekker case in addition to investigating th "Robin Hood" killers. This book was pretty good. The mystery aspect kept me guessing. I enjoy reading about Davenport but his many women conquests drive me nuts.
This was a good book, but I prefer his first three novels more. Still very thrilling.
Really great cop storys not like on TV.One smart hero.I really like this authers style.he still surprizes me.start at the beginning of this series it helps.I dident but im still reading.
Great read!
Another hit for John Sandford in the Prey series! He contiues to deliver a good story line and a main character that you really get to know and like!
Another fantastic Lucas Davenport novel. Sanford has Davenport racing around the streets of New York trying to catch Michael Bekker, the frightening psychopath from Eyes of Prey. Read that one first, then come back to this one and it will blow you away.
sleek and nasty ...,superb
very good
AWESOME as usual!

Another great thriller in the "Prey" series....

Well this is a continuation of Bekker and a great one at that. I was happy to see Lily return but I'm ok with how that all worked out. Bekker is such a crazy character, I wonder how these authors think of these things. I had to reread a few parts to understand what was going on in second story line but did figure it out. This was a good book and I will continue on this series.

not my thing
John Sandford has me hooked..a thrill ride, and I love Virgil Flowers..can't wait for the next Prey novel...
VERY GOOD BOOK--YOU WILL ENJOY.
Fourth in the Prey series featuring Lucas Davenport. The pyscho drug-addicted serial killer Bekker from the last book escapes at his trial, and re-appears in New York again torturing and killing. Davenport is asked by the NYPD to assist in tracking him down, but there's another reason they've asked him there as well. This is the usual fast-paced story from Sandford, with POV of both Davenport and the killer. Hunting Bekker is pretty much the same story as the last book, it's the other plot that held more of my attention, although catching up with Bekker leads to an ending that I found humorously ironic. Davenport is settling into a more stable person, IMO he is more likable this way.
Good read. Love the Lucas Davenport series.
great
good murder mystery
