This book was excellent! Although the subject was a bit disturbing, the story was gripping, interesting and well written. Patterson has you so connected to the characters, so involved in their story that you begin to think of them as real people...I also liked the way the story moved back and forth between the two time periods. It helped to explain the motives of the characters. This kept me guessing until the end. Even though the outcome seemed to be clear, the twists and clever plot devices kept you second-guessing yourself and your instincts! I couldn't put this one down!

RNP's right up there with other gifted author's who write about the law and politics. Am looking forward to reading more of his books with recurring characters.

This was a great book! It hooked me from page one and kept me reading straight through the end.
this author always comes through. intelligent and entertaining
I am a huge fan of legal thrillers and this is a great one. It has a shocking ending and if you are a Patterson fan, this is a don't miss!
LOVE IT - excellent detail, holds your attention all the way through!
Excellent legal thriller and courtroom drama. The author is an attorney so I'm sure it is accurate. Lots of twists and turns in this book, and I don't know if I was really all that surprised with the ending. Throughout the book, I really hated one of the main characters. RNP is a born story teller, and this book could have been about one of today's front page stories, involving sex, teenagers, murder and those who we trust with our teenagers. This book will keep you turning the pages well into the night, or keep you busy during a flight or on the beach.

This lawyer-turned novelist writes a great thriller, far surpassing Grisham at characterization and certainly his equal in pacing and talent. Intense courtroom drama.

Another great book from Patterson.
Another great one by Richard North Patterson. From the back cover, "Attorney Tony Lord left his hometown and the bitter memories of his girlfriend's murder behind. Now, twenty-seven years later, he's pulled back to Lake City to defend his closest high school friend against a charge of homicide". Leaves you questioning until the last twenty pages or so.
Another great read by Richard North Patterson!
This is another great book by Patterson...it will keep you guessing.
Good read. Good flow. Very intense.
Richard North Patterson is a masterful writer, and this is one of his best mystery novels. As a reader who is easily bored I find his well developed characters fascinating and his plot interesting, believable and always surprising.
"Intense courtroom drama....as startling as the bang of the gavel." People
I have not read this novel but it was a New York Times Bestseller.

Finally finished and am so tired of these characters, situations, stock emotions, drawn out & repetitive retellings that I can only say...T E D I O U S.
In the late 1960s, Tony is the star of the Lake City, Ohio, high school football team. But when Alison is found strangled behind her house, even Tony's closest friend, Sam Robb, suspects him. Alison's true killer is never found, and Tony flees his home town to forge a career as a high-powered, high-profile San Francisco criminal attorney and marries a a movie star. Cutting to the present day, Tony is called back to Lake City to defend his old friend. Sixteen-year-old track star Marcie Calder was found dead on the shore of Lake Erie, and Sam, now the overweight assistant principal and track coach of Lake City High, is the accused. A series of scandals slowly erodes Tony's confidence in Sam's innocence as Tony comes to terms with his own troubled past.
As with Patterson's previous work, Silent Witness is a novel with subtle characters who happen to be involved in a compelling (and authentic-seeming) criminal trial.
