As an Anne Stuart fan, I have to say I was disappointed in this tale of a woman caught between two brothers, one of whom is a serial killer.

While Anne Stuart is the queen of dark heroes, there was no real suspense here, as the reader knows from the start who is the bad guy and who is the hero. Unfortunately, it takes the heroine an absurd amount of time and evidence to figure out what we, the readers, know from the beginning. To say that this heroine is too stupid to live is an understatement. She is a doormat to boot, unable to show any ability to stand up for herself in any situation, except when it comes to being bitchy towards the hero. I was almost rooting for her demise myself by the end, mostly due to her endless waffling between the brothers, even as evidence of the truth practically smacks her in the face.

The unlikeable heroine combined with police procedures that are ridiculous in the extreme, a hero and a sheriff that make cryptic statements instead of giving warnings that might actually help prevent murders, and a plot that mostly centers around the heroines internal monologues instead of much real action, made this a wall-banger that I barely managed to finish.

AAR gave it a B, though, so your mileage may vary...

I didn't care much for this story, first of all the characters just make you want to slap everyone of them, the Mom is the most irritating person, the daughter at 13 is wiser than her mom? and the brother returns to expose the killer and has known it for years and just now wants to expose him? The Mom has a filthy mouth along with the returning brother so naturally they fall for each other. Not my kind of reading.
