I usually don't like western romances, but I enjoyed this one. The hero & heroine were really interesting, & I loved the tidbits of real history interspersed within the story.

Wow Hot! Antoher great Susan Johnson story
This is my first book by Susan Johnson and she is certainly a great storyteller. The pages flew by because the action was always ongoing. On the downside, I thought the book was overly wordy at times. I gave the book 4 stars because of a few pet peeves. Trey Black could do no wrong; he could bust broncos, play the piano divinely, woo women, speak French, argue intelligently for and against legislation in Congress, kill with his bare hands, help find game in the fall/winter for his clan, take care of babies, etc, etc, etc.
The premise of the story was a bit hard to swallow at first. Empress Jordan (yep, that is the heroine's name), sells herself to the highest bidder in a brothel for 3 weeks, so she can feed her brothers and sisters.
One thing I enjoyed -- and I've never seen before in historical romances -- was the footnotes through the book, that added to my pleasure in reading. The author also has a shockingly broad command of the English language. I found myself looking up words in the dictionary.
