If I could give this 10 stars, I would! A western style Cinderella story, this is one of the best romances I've read this year. Keeper shelf for sure!

Low Down is a woman to be admired and she wins your heart from the beginning until you root for her to get her man. This was a book a started one day and couldn't put down until the wee hours. Wow, if all women could be as giving. And Max, he just sounds too dreamy!Osborne is a master of the woman heroine!

This book is a true gem. If you're tired of the typical romance with everyone being perfect 10s, try this one. The story is set in the old pioneer days in the west, and the woman was an orphan with an extremely hard life and no self esteem. Nothing good had ever happened in her life and there was no reason to suspect anything would change. The plot has lots of twists and turns due to the circumstances of an arranged marriage. I couldn't put it down. The people in this book had such character and perseverance. I haven't read this author before but will have to read the rest of her work.
Maggie Osborne is the very best in the western historical romance genre.
I had to give this book 5 stars because I never wanted the story to end. The characters of the story really pull at your heart strings. Louise will be a character that I will remember forever. What a great love story!!

Maggie Osborne creates incredibly complex characters and situations.
This book has some of the most agonizing opening chapters I've ever read! I could identify with the anguish Max experienced by not being able to marry the woman he wanted. Low Down/Louise wanted to release Max from marrying her but Max was "a man of honor."
I couldn't imagine getting caught in such a hopeless marriage! Low Down/Louise didn't seem to have any positive traits; she was filthy, cursed a blue streak and lacked any understanding of lady-like behavior.
After the marriage, Low Down/Louise begins a metamorphasis into a woman of substance.
Max is a strong presence but he takes his own sweet time recognizing Low Down/Louise's character and value.
The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because of Philadelphia. She seemed to have no good qualities. She seemed to be more of a cartoon than a real character. If she was so awful, how and why did Max love her so?
