One of Gibson's better books. Poor girl is saved, gets pregnant, gets dumped by guy fighting his own demons- they meet up years later when she has made a success of herself. There are a few obstacles here they each overcome which makes them stronger as characters. This helps to make the novel very likeable.

I enjoyed this book in spite of its flaws. The runaway bride plot is more than a little tired and cliche, but the characters were strong enough to pull me through that. The flaw that was more difficult to overcome, for me anyway, was the complete reversal of the heroine's speech patterns when the story made a 7 year jump. It felt to me as though the author just got tired of writing the character's speech the way she'd introduced it, so she just dropped it, hoping the reader would see that as part of a maturation process. I didn't and I don't, but I gritted my teeth and accepted it. I also felt that the issue of the heroine being dyslectic wasn't "paid off" as it should have been. The emphasis it got at the beginning of the story made it deserve more than the shrug off it got later. Had these issue been handled more effectively, I wouldn't have been bounced out of the story as often as I was. It was only the strength of the characters that got me to finish the story at all.

2nd Rachel Gibson book I've read and I loved it. While the cover looks like the book is mostly fluffy romance it is deceiving. Yes the story is pretty much the same formula for a romannce novel but Gibson is funny, sexy and serious. Really enjoyed this book as much as I did the first one I read. I'm looking forward to reading more of her work. Carol

I enjoyed this book as I do most of Rachel Gibson's books. It wasn't my favorite, but it was a fun, easy read. I like the depth she gives her characters. She is very good at making you feel their sadness and insecurities.

I enjoyed the fact that this book was light and fluffy. Reading is my escape, and often, after a rough week's work I don't want to think too hard to understand the characters and the plotline.
I liked the fact that each character had flaws. I especially liked the way the main female character found a way to overcome her dyslexia to make something of herself when she was raised to believe she was nothing more than a pretty face.

This is a wonderful book! I'm rereading it for the 10th time right now and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside every single time.

I enjoyed the first book of this series.
Series romance is not reality TV...they're supposed to transport you to a fanciful scenario that's different from your everyday routine. This book did it well for me and was often laugh-out-loud funny, which I love in a book!
This is one of those "kick your shoes off and live someone else's life for a few hours" books, and I found it great fun.

I really like Rachel Gibson as a writer, this book was good but not as good as some of her other books. I look forward to reading more of her books.

Georgeanne Howard has no money, no friends to call, and only the clothes on her back. She hitches a ride with professional hockey player John Kowalsky who is surprised to find out he has picked up his boss's runaway bride. After spending a memorable night together, Georgie and John meet again seven years later. This time John discovers that Georgie has been keeping a secret from him...a daughter she never told him about.
This is the first book in Rachel Gibson's Chinooks Hockey Team series. I had a problem with both John and Georgeanne in this story. I wanted to like them, but neither are particularly likeable. They do have a lot of chemistry though, which makes the romance a little more believable. My favorite character was six year old Lexie. The scenes of her and John getting to know each other are priceless. Overall, the book is just OK. Thankfully the series gets better. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

I'm so glad I didn't read this book first because I wouldn't have read the rest of the series. I really enjoy Gibson's light fluffy romance books but once in a while I'll read one I really dislike. This was one of them.
First of all this book is really boring and slow. The characters think themselves to death in a circle and I kept getting feelings of deja vu. Also I think some of the dialogue between Georgeanne and John gets repeated in "Trouble with Valentine's Day" word for word. Added to the fact that I really don't like Georgeanne. She is fussy, lies a lot, very selfish, high maintenance, and what kind of mother watches soap operas with a six year old? The scenes and dialogue between Georgeanne and John lack sizzle. In fact the whole direction of the book is lacking.
The saving grace of this book turns out to be Georgeanne's best friend Mae and hockey goalie Hugh. They don't have a lot of scenes together but I wish the book was about them instead. They had a fun dialogue and their characters were intriguing. I wish I knew their backgrounds more.
I think this book is a poor representation of Gibson's work. So if you end up with this book and hated it, give her another chance. With exception of "Not in the Mood for Love," most of her other books are fun and a quick read.

I love Rachel Gibson books in general but the Chinooks series is one of my favorites. It's great how she brings back characters from previous books.
I am a fan of Rachel Gibson books and have enjoyed all the other Chinooks books but this one was a bit slow. I didn't love the characters.
