The Sinner is a tight, believable, well-crafted tale. While the seasoned Gerristen fan will catch on to who's who and what's really going on about halfway through, it keeps your interest and all comes together nicely in the end. The character of Rizzoli softens a bit in this novel and we learn more about Maura Isles' past. Recommended.

I wasn't aware this was part of a series when I began this novel. I still loved every page, never got lost. I'm going back to read the ones that came first. Tess Gerritsen is a master at suspence and anticipation..
Helpful Score: 2
This is your typical fast-paced, complex story from Ms. Gerritsen. Fans won't be disappointed in its history of Maura Iles and her mysterious ex-husband. The story wove its way through several settings and ended up in a place I didn't think it would; but that's good because I like surprises. Oddly, the title character figures into the story in a different way than you would think. Recommended for thriller fans and fans of the always-entertaining Tess Gerritsen.
Helpful Score: 1
A Richly textured thriller with a dark core of mass murder and affairs of the heart. Dark emotions and dangerous secrets permeate this unusually chilling novel.
Helpful Score: 1
This book had me hooked from the very beginning. When Maura, the medical examiner, is called to the Abby to determine cause of death of two nuns, she finds a gruesome double murder. The mystery thickens as she begins her autopsy to discover that the younger of the two nuns has very recently given birth. But what has happened to the baby and who was the father? The characters in this story are very interesting and the story is well developed. This is a page turner until the very end.

I was intriqued by the subject matter from the get-go! The characters are well developed believable.
Helpful Score: 1
A chilling novel of suspense featuring Boston medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles, on the deadly trail of an anonymous madman who's committed an unholy crime...of bone-chilling proportions...at the chapel of Our Lady of Divine Light...a cloistered convent, now stained with the blood of two nuns.
Helpful Score: 1
A fast-paced, suspenseful plot, beginning with the brutal murder of a young nun and ending with a personal betrayal. Good book to curl up with before the fire, but don't expect to sleep until you've turned that last page!
Good read if you like stuff like CSI.
As usual, a good book.
Not even the icy temperatures of a typical New England winter can match the bone-chilling scene of carnage discovered at the Chapel of Our Lady of Devine Light. Within the cloistered convent lie two nuns-one dead, one critically injured- victims of an unspeakably savage attacker. The brutal attack appears to be without motive, but medical examinier, Maura Isles's autopsy of the dead woman yeilds a shocking surprise: Twenty-year old Sister Camille gave birth before she was murdered. Then the other body is found mutilated beyond recognition.
I love this author! A PBS repost!! ShereeR.
Strong female characters and good writing.
Terrific! Tess Gerritsen gives us another excellent mystery ... if you haven't read her before this is a good book to start with! Love her characters ... they jump off the page with life [or, er, considering this is a murder mystery ... with death!]. A really great, couldn't-put-it-down thriller!
A good read.

It was good, a bit slow but good
Another wonderful Tess Gerritsen book !!
grisly murder at a convent baffles Medical Examiner Maura Isles and Det. Jane Rizzoli at the start of this assured, richly shaded seventh novel from bestseller Gerritsen (The Apprentice; The Surgeon, etc.). The popular duo are called to Boston's Graystones Abbey when two nuns are discovered in an abandoned chapel, one dead and the other near death, both brutally bludgeoned. Red herrings are everywhere: Isles's discovery that one of the murdered nuns had recently given birth (followed shortly by the discovery of the baby's body in a pond near the convent); the murder of a homeless derelict with her face and extremities removed by her killer; and the lurking menace of a multinational chemical company. Complicating matters further is the sudden arrival of Isles's ex-husband, Victor, a celebrity humanitarian with his own suspicious connection to the case, and Rizzoli's old flame, FBI agent Gabriel Dean, who's responsible for the baby now growing in Rizzoli's belly. The investigation is rather low-keybut Gerritsen gives atmospheric depth to her tale with descriptions of snowbound Boston and an exotic past tragedy. Isles's pleasantly bitchy coldness ("Go ahead and pass me, idiots. I've met too many drivers like you on my slab") gives a welcome edge to the proceedings, and the struggles of both Isles and Rizzoli to balance their tough professional acts with romantic drama are satisfyingly gritty.
Tess does it again! 2 nuns are attacked, a woman mutilated, and Dr. Isles ex husband is in town.
Medical investigator Maura Isles & detective Jane Rizzoli are a great team to solve a murder mystery. Warning after reading one of Tess Gerritsen\'s books, you will want to read them ALL.

Great little read! Like Tess because she writes like a man, not too much romance, but a great mystery.
Enjoyable read. Good plot.
Enjoyed it thoroughly!
a page turner that keeps you on your seat to the very end
If you like difficult to solve, twist and turn murder mysteries, this is for you! Tess G. does a great job in this book of building the story. If you have read Rizzoli and Isles before this, it is excellent in getting deeper into their lives as well. Enjoy the book when you get it. Tough to put down.
Medical Examiner Maura Isles is called to a cloistered convent. A brutal attack has left one nun dead and another critically injured. The brutal crime appears to be without motive. But the autopsy of Sister Camille shows that she gave birth shortly before she was murdered.
Great mystery. I certainly didn't figure out whodunit or the link between the murders. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

I enjoyed the plot. Like all well constructed detective novels, I closed the book feeling like I could have solved the mystery without the big reveal at the end if I had been paying more attention instead of just enjoying the ride. The only distraction was the style, which was in some places entirely too overblown for my taste.
This was a good mystery featuring detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles. I liked how they teamed together to solve the murders as well as learning more about their personal lives.
Good suspense, good read.
Couldn't put it down.
My wife watches a great deal of television. She discovered Rizzoli & Isles on TNT. We started watching it and liked it. As usual, I then looked up the author of the books upon which it is based. I ordered the first one from Paper Back Swap. I liked it and proceeded to put together the entire series. Each book has an interesting twist, or several. As a retired police sergeant, detective, corporal, and patrolman, I have had the opportunity to interview some psychopaths and I find Gerritsen's villains to be believable. If you like mysteries, these books will satisfy.
My first Tess Gerrittson book. I'm hooked.
Great book!!!!! I have read it twice, which I don't do with many books, that I have read.
Fantastic Read! I love the cast in these books and cant wait for the next book!
Once again author Tess Gerritsen keeps you turning the pages...Surprise after surprise will keep you guessing...If you love a good mystery then this book is for you
Good read, well written and a good ending.
Great book. Enjoyed the story line.
This was an interesting story on how the turn of events came about and there was a happy ending! A good interesting read.
I liked this book - kept me in suspense all the way with its twists and turns.
Jane Rizolli and Dr Maura Isles continuing stories. Great characters good story
The middle in 5 that feature Jane Rizzoli. Lots of twists in this one from a murdered nun to a massacre on the other side of the world. Great alone but does refer back to the surgeon and the apprentice. Follow up with Body double and Vanish to see how the characters whole story plays out.
Very good detective story & detailed forensics investigation.
Great book couldn't put it down.
A Maura Isles book. Interesting plot inside a convent.
The vampire hunters series by this author is always a good read and this book is no exception. I really enjoy her tales!
A meticulously drawn mystery. The characters are a bit stiff, and it's obvious but not irritating that there has been at least one book before this one with the same characters. I enjoyed the read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the second one I've read by this author. The plot was involved enough to keep my attention but easy to follow. Everything ties together nicely at the end.
I enjoyed this book. It is not the best Tess Gerritsen I have read but it was good. I would recommend it.
Another excellent book by Gerritsen! "Dark emotions and dangerous secrets permeate this chilling novel"
Good thriller.
A very nice mystery
Very good. Nun found dead. Turns out she has given birth. What's up with that???
This was my first book by this particular author, and while it wasn't exactly what I was expecting, the plot was different, and certainly interesting enough that I would read other books by this author. It could have stood a bit more in the romance department, but all-in-all, a good read.
A richly textured thriller with a dark core of mass murder and affairs of the heart
Tess Gerritsen seems to find new ways to thrill you will curious and twisted plots

Her best yet!
Tess Gerritsen has certainly raised some eyebrows with this intrigue behind cloister walls
This one focusses on the medical examiner who connects the dots when 2 nuns are murdered.

Fast paced easy read - connects all the dots without being too complicated.
Fast paced medical thriller. Her imagination and writing never ceases to amaze me. I have enjoyed all of her books.
Great book if you are fan of Patricia Cornwell, you will probably like this series
WOW! Couldn't put it down and now had to find the next one in the series due to the ending. . .
great book, keeps you guessing until the end!
Two nuns are found at a convent that have been savagely attacked, one dead and one critically injured. It is a rich tale of the hunt to find the killer that will have you sitting up all night because you can't put it down once you start reading.
This is the Gerritsen book I've read. I loved it. Keep you on edge until the end. I can't wait to read more.
Just discovered Tess Gerritsen and love her!
Excellent!
Frightening! You won't want to put it down.

AWESOME READ!!!!!
Tess Gerritsen is an excellent writer. She keeps you in suspense.
This is a page burning, turning thriller that I could not put down. Great twists and great continuing characters. Dr. Maura Isles and Detective Jane Rizzoli have lots to offer as characters. Love this auther!
Not one of my favorites from Ms. Gerritsen.
Fast read, well done.
Tess Gerritsen always keeps you guessing & this is no exception.
The ending is "She walked out of his church, and back into her own world."
I completely loved this book and I reccomend it to anyone.
Part of the Jane Rizzoli series, Gerritsen's THE SINNER never fails to enterain and thrill.
A wonderful mystery. I couldn't put it down. I loved it and am going to read more by this author.
The characters are well drawn (especially Isles and Rizzoli) and the locale seems authentic - in and around Boston. Furthermore, the plot moves fast and is quite interesting. The negatives include mainly unrealistic happenings and an ending that seems forced. Certainly a good read, but not in the top echelon of detective stories...
This is a great book that will keep you reading until the end!
Great, just like all her books, although I guessed "who dun it".
Always enjoy reading books written by Tess Gerritsen.
Enjoyed this book.
Give it a 10.

I love all the Rizzoli and Isles series and this one didn't disappoint. More about their person life in this one than usual and that is why it got a 4 instead of 5.
Another good read from Tess Gerritsen.
intriguing and complex plot with surprises.
Vary good. Not your typical mystery. I enjoyed it.
this book was very good - suspenseful - easy quick read

A little slow to start but had a satisfying finish.
