Sometimes when I come to review a book that I think is abysmal and see that it has close to 4 stars, I start to wonder if I'm missing something. So I check Amazon and see that it has 2 stars, and it makes me feel much better about my 3 star review of this book. The writing of this book seemed disjointed to me. It is not like Samantha James of old. I would save my credit and look for a deal in the book bazaar once this book has been out and circulated for a while.

I was really enjoying this book until the end of it. The storyline was fresh, intriguing and had a great pace. Plus it was believable. Towards the end it seemed all both characters could do was "oh how I wish they could love me" thing and nothing else. Then it stopped and continued. So glaze over that and it was a good read.

This was an extremely disappointing book, by a usually good author. Almost seems like it was written by somebody completely different.

The heroine was whiny, the hero was horny, their emotional conenction was non-existant, and I ended up reading really fast just to get to the end of the book.

If I did not know better, I would have guessed that this was a debut novel by a C-list author.

Despite the initial--and rather lame--"I'll get my revenge by making him fall in love with me then I'll reject him" plot, this turned out to be a very enjoyable romance with Claire and Gray being great characters who were easy to identify with and easy to love. After Claire realized that she didn't hate Gray anymore for killing her brother in a duel, I began to see the deeper emotional connection between them. They did have the usual misunderstandings, but they didn't drag overlong, and I love it when the hero desires the heroine so much that he almost begs for it--it gives me delicious shivers. Aside from Claire's annoying bouts of postnatal hysteria, this was a satisfying read. 4 stars.

Overall I enjoyed the book and couldnt put it down until I was about 2/3 of the way through it. At which point the conflict between h/h became tedious. After a few more chapters we finally get back to wrapping it up, which came together well. I liked the characters and the steamy interludes but for me personally those few chapters didn't really enhance the story. It was still a good read though.
