This book asks the question, what really is a Dhampir? How did Magiere come to being? What is her purpose in life? In a book that more based on self-discovery than a strong central plot, Magiere, Leesil, and the kindly scholar Wynn are setting off on a journey to find and rescure Leesil's elven mother. But before they can set out, Magiere knows that she needs answers. She needs to know what she really is. Unfortuantly, it appears that her purpose is much different than she ever suspected.
This is the third book in the Noble Dead series. A lot is revealed in this book, including Magiere's orgins. I was happy to see that we have a slightly different take on the Dhampir myth here. I'm interested to see where our chracters go in book four.

Not much of a fan of fairy kingdon books. Magiere and her half-elf friend, Leesil, have finally given in to their feelings for each other and started a relationship. But they don't have much time to revel in their newfound bliss. They've decided to undertake a journey to find out the truth about Magiere's parentage and to try to find Leesil's mother. Accompanied by elfin scholar Wynn and her dog, Chap, who is actually a fay in a dog's body, Magiere and Leesil set out, unaware that they are being tracked by Welsteil, Magiere's would-be mentor, who betrayed her, and Chane, a vampire who harbors a passion for Wynn.
Well-written and original vampire tale.
This was a solid addition to this series but I felt it dragged a little in certain places. It took too long for them to get where they needed to go. I really like the way the love story between Leesil and Magiere is shaping up. It's not the focus of the novel, but it's easy to see their feelings for each other. The mystery surrounding Magiere's beginnings weren't too surprising, but I'm curious to see how everything is going to play out.
These books just keep getting better.
A strong heroine who defies good and bad. She is a dhampir - half human, half vampire - sired for the purpose of slaying the undead. Her attitude of not wanting to get close to people and reluctantly helping them strikes a more realistic note than a lot of heroes.
This series just keeps getting better!
Not as good as the first two but still a good read.
