This clever story had a really appealing hero and heroin -- the hero being especially charming. It had the kind of characters who linger in your mind for a few days after you finish the book. There were plenty of witty moments, I did laugh out loud once or twice, and although it wasn't the steamiest romance that I've read, it did have some sexy scenes that were well done. The 'Texas meets Scotland' thing kept the story really playful. Mostly, I loved the 'love story' in this book.

Jake Delaney has come to Rowanclere Castle trying to locate one of the few remaining copies of the Texas Declaration of Independence. He poses as a researcher wanting information about the castle. But when he is left along, Jake searches every nook and crannie looking for the historical document. What he finds are strange occurrences like swaying chandeliers, moving bread baskets, and strange noises. When a beautiful ghost visits him in the middle of the night, he wonders who is behind all of these tricks. Gillian Ross needs to make people believe the castle is haunted. They have a buyer who only wants a castle with a ghost. Gillian wants to make sure the word gets out that their castle is loaded with ghosts. She doesn't expect their new guest to see right through her disguise.
This is the follow-up to "Simmer All Night". The Delaney family is still searching for the Declaration. Jake just wants to find the document and get on with his life. With his sister married to his best friend and his mother reconciled with her father, Jake is no longer responsible for their well-being and will have time to travel the world. But falling in love with a Scottish "ghost" does not play into his plans. He loves that Gillian will go to extremes in order to see to her sister's future.
This story had some very funny moments and was much more entertaining than the previous book in the series. I loved the characters, including Jake's little dog, Scooter. My rating: 4 Stars.

Funny twist on the hauunted castle routine... down and out noble family finds a buyer on the condition that the castle comes with at least one resident ghost. Love twists and turns with lots of "gotcha" moments and well matched characters. Fun read.

Generally, I enjoyed the BAD LUCK BRIDES series much better than this one. There's a minimum of plot in both of the books related to the missing Texas Declaration of Independence documents dreamed up by the author (see below).
This is the second book in the series. Jake Delaney is pursuing the missing documents to Scotland, where it is rumored one of the five copies is hidden. He runs into Gillian Ross, who is in desperate need of selling a huge old castle that has been in the family's possession for generations. The only person vaguely interested in buying the gigantic mansion wants a castle with a ghost ... or two.
Jake decides that admitting that he wants the treasured documents (said to be in the castle) might not gain him entrance. So, he comes under false colors. Since Gillian needs to try out her ghost costume and behaviors, she decides to start haunting Jake. Well, Jake is not impressed and starts to look for how the tricks are being done.
The reason I gave this book 3 stars is because of the many laugh-out-loud moments and the general hilarity of the dialogue. The plot was extremely thin.
Chrissy and Cole Morgan return from the first book, as does the mother of both Chrissy and Jake -- Elizabeth (the daughter of the Earl of Thornbury).
