I am always drawn to those stories in which the heoine is strong and resourceful and the hero is brave and loving (it doesn't hurt if he is a real hunk too). I also like to read about the challenges that bring these two together. SLAVE, the first book in Cheryl Brooks' Cat Star Chronicles has all of these elements with attractive characters, evil villians and bold adventures. Its a fun easy read which I was happy to pass on to others to enjoy. I am really looking forward to obtaining the next books WARRIOR and ROGUE from Paperback Swap when they become available!

While this book won't be winning any Newbery awards any time soon it is quite an enjoyable read, in a guilty-pleasure sort of way. If you want a little light reading and you like sci-fi romance or wouldn't mind giving it a go then you should definitely pick up this book. Captain Jacinth, aka "Jack", is an interesting female character and I greatly enjoyed her interactions with Cat. The sex scenes are steamy and the plot is decent in a fluff-romance-novel sort of way. Brooks' worlds and aliens are certainly interesting and strange enough to keep you reading.

I would have liked a stronger male lead -- but could understand his personality. Will be looking for more of C Brooks books in the future!

A tad bit slow but once the story got going I read it in one day. A good book, can not wait to read the rest of the series. I highly recommend this book.
This book does not finish as strong as it begins. The characters were likable and interesting, and the plot begins well; but both loose focus after the mid-way point. The tough kick-ass heroine finishes as baby-talking mush tring to decide if she should market the penis fluids of her lover...really.
This author desperately needs a good editor.

It has many interesting ideas just left me wishing for more.
Needed to be "proofed", however, for a first try, with no one to help...I could NOT ever write...
It was ...worth the read. Encourage this author. WORTH IT! Always pass 'kindness' and all...pass it on.

I get where the other reviewers are coming from, however, I think when you put it in context with the story of what happened to Cat's world and people, the concept of possibly selling her mate's 'snard' becomes more palatable. The writing is a bit sophomorish, but enjoyable none-the-less. It's an interesting start to a series and interested me enough to reach for book #2.

This was a good book, I look forward to reading more by this author
I just can't get into first person
I enjoyed this book emmensely
great read not exactly what i expected or the type of book i normally read but was a fun read a little short those for the book was so think i read it in a day but it is worth getting cant wait to pass it on to the next person
Deplorable dialogue. A rambling, repetitive, and nonsensical plot. Shallow characterization. Bizarre and sometimes disturbing fetishes. Don't even get me started on the unrealistic psychology of slave and rape victims. I'm so glad this book was given to me because I don't think I could have handled paying for it whether via a credit or actual money.
strange read. okay read.
This was an enjoyable read and a great escape. There is not very much SciFi romance out there and as a story this was pretty good. She created a believable futuristic space travel universe with different planets and aliens.
OK so some reviewers state that the Hero, Cat, is flat or without personality. But I think that those opinions are because it was all written in first person with only Jack's, Jacinth's, input. This is not the norm for romances and gives insight into only her mind, you have to judge him by what she tells you.
If you are into SciFi and Romance this is probably a book for you. I read straight through it. I loved the planet she created.

The first 200 pages were so good.. I even liked the first person, jack was just too cool, I sailed though, I even book book 2 on my wish list... then came the last half... total turn around, Jack turned into a love sick..."girl" and turned me off one hundred and ten percent!!!!! even went back and took off the 2nd book from my wish list, though I will read it if I happen upon it for a quarter or something, I won't waste a credit!!!!
This book needs editing-altho there are some interesting plot ideas, the characters need some more development and it moves very slowly.

For everyone critisizing this book (editor or no editor, she did a good job) , I would like to see you guys write a published book before you critisize someones book, you should at least be a little more nice about your negative comments.
As for the Author Good for you for writing a book that is at least original in ideas and has some houmor in it. I loved the book.

To the author: Did you give any thought to your storyline? Was your editor in a coma when she/he edited this? My suggestion to you is go back to school & take some writing classes, cause you need it!
