"Georgette Thomas was one of six passengers in the sleeping compartment, but when the Marseille express arrived in Paris that Saturday morning, she didn't get off. She had been strangled. During the weekend that followed, the other passengers from the same compartment would also meet sudden, violent death. Had they seen Georgette Thomas's murderer? The police had little to go on; yet as they found and questioned the dead woman's relatives and associates, the outlines of a bold, bizarre and extraordinarily brilliant crime began to emerge...". This French novel from 1962 and published in English a year later is a successful blend of an Agatha Christie-type puzzle and a police procedural. Liked it so much I got his other books available at PBS.
