Schyler Crandall returns to Heaven, Louisiana when her father has a heart attack to discover the family business in ruins. Schyler is strong, likable character and I enjoyed the love story. However, I thought that were a few too many subplots going on at once that detracted from the story.

Schyler Crandall left home six years ago when she found out her sister was pregnant with her fiance's baby. But when her father has a massive heart attack, she returns home to Belle Terre to find her family's business, Crandall Logging, on the edge of bankruptcy with a huge loan payment coming due. In order to save the business, Schyler must put her trust into Cash Boudreaux, a man who grew up on Belle Terre property but was never part of the family.

I think I waited about 20 years too long to read this book. What I might have liked in the late 80's or 90's doesn't appeal to me now. The heroine is somewhat likeable but has too many TSTL moments. She also has way too many blind spots when it comes to her family. Cash is alpha to the extreme. He broods, he drinks, and he has sex with every woman in the county. I didn't like that he was seeing other women when he was with Schyler. That was a big turn off.

There were far too many villains in this book. It got very hard to find someone to root for. But, I can still say that the story was still very readable and I wanted to see how it ended. I would call this book a stepping stone for Sandra Brown. My rating: 2.5 Stars.

This was a good book. Keeps you reading to see what happens next. Has danger in it, along with a hard, tough man who is our hero, Cash. It is set in the south where its hot and life is still a little prejudiced for the African Americans. Our heroine, Schyler, is a brave girl who had grown up where the story takes place but had moved away for 10 years to the city, NY I think, where life was much more up to date and moved at a faster pace, to escape a spiteful sibling and finance. She has come back because her adopted father is in the hospital suffering from a heart attack. She runs into the forbidden Cash who runs, unofficially, Schyler's family wood business. She tangles with the meanest man in the area and survives. She has a lot of spunk and grit. Good story, a must read. I think you will like it.

My FAVORITE Sandra Brown book. I've read and re-read this book a few times. Ohhhhh, I just love that Cash Boudreaux! Yes, he is the typical romance "hero" of the mid/late '80's, but I can't help it, I just love him! ;-) I feel that all of the characters in this book are strong(whether good ones or bad ones) and they definitely add to the story. For me this is one of Sandra Brown's most entertaining books! Hope you enjoy it too! happy reading!

It is dangerous for Schyler to even be near him, yet she must dare to confront the past-if there is to be any peace in Heaven.
