This is a very modern book of short stories about women and friendships. This seems to be a new genre: short stories about the same characters from different parts of their lives and different perspectives. Instead of the author putting it all together in a cohesive whole, it is up to the reader to complete that task.

Each story deals with the highs and lows of friendships â from adult and child lives. Friendships ebb and flow â they've got strong and weak elements in them. Sometimes there's honesty â people can talk out what is happening in the shift in feelings, more often there isn't â and there's hurt, separation, misunderstanding.

Although there are husbands in the families, they are not as important to the stories as the central theme of friendship between women (or between female children).
