Beautifully illustrated, filled with accurate informations, and covering some of nature's most fascinating creatures, Snakes: A Golden Guide is a little treasure for those who are interested in nature. Too often, snakes are misunderstood and feared because of myth and misinformation. Rare and helpful species are despised. Harmless species are confused with harmful species. This book gives a quick survey of snakes, how they move, how they reproduce and grow, the structure of their bodies, and their diversity throughout the world. More than 3/4 of the book is devoted to individual profiles of the worlds most important and most interesting species.

The Golden Guide series has published its little high quality books for many years. I remember getting them as a kid and being fascinated by the science and the excellent illustrations. I can remember buying them as a graduate student and using them to get a quick, reliable, and interesting overview of a subject. I only wish that there were more.
