A small book with a wonderful romance in Scotland. Rosamunde Pilcher always writes about intrigueing characters.

I love Rosamunde Pilcher. This is not her best, but I'll read anything she has written. A young woman engaged to someone her strong-willed stepmother selected is stranded in a snowstorm and falls in love with the right man for her. "A world filled with enjoyable portraits of people's lives and loves, tenderly laid open for us." (Back cover)

Her characters are almost subdued, a little more like ordinary mortals with their rather unadorned personalities, which give them (esp the major characters) something that attracts kinship with the reader.
The story is about how life for anyone has an unexpected whimsy, and finding love in the unlikeliest of places and in the rather unimagined person.
Rosamunde Pilcher has mastered the craft of how to make love seem always sweet and precious, in this modern day where everyone is all eager to jump under the covers.
Characters in this novel are unpunctuated, yet with all their loose-ended personalities, one sees a possibility that real love is able to blossom despite all kinds of improbabilities. This is a real "must read" for those of us hopelessly in love with love!"

If you've never read Rosamunde Pilcher, I think this is the best one to start with - it's short and beautiful, typical of her other, longer works. This is a love story with far more depth than your run-of-the-mill paperback romance, reminiscent in tone to _Jane Eyre_. The description of the Scotland countryside she places in your head is one you'll remember for a long time. Put on a pot of tea, grab your comfy blanket, and settle in with this book for a satisfying read.
Caroline Cliburn was to be married next Tuesday yet she had some doubts. She and her younger brother Jody took long drive North to Scotland in search of their missing brother Angus. A sudden spring blizzard is them stranded by the roadside and plays an important part in story.
This short novel is about people who manipulate other people, people who are manipulated by other people, and people who rebel against being manipulated. My main criticism is that Caroline, the main character, after her brief rebellion, goes right back to being bossed around by someone else, in this case Oliver, who she marries in the end. The book is well-written, but I certainly won't bother rereading it.

Rosamunde Pilcher is a wonderful writer! Only reason I'm listing is I need room! I've collected all of her books and am keeping the majority of them as I read them over and over!

Every single one of Rosamunde Pilcher's books are a great read. I became interested in the characters immediately and it's hard to put her books down.
Caroline travels to Scotland, hoping to make contact with a brother she hasn't seen in years, and return in time for her wedding to the man her strong-willed stepmother thought so suitable. Then a sudden snow storm strands her in an isolated house with a young man recovering from tragedy. Both are on the brink of terrible mistakes, but perhaps they can save each other.
A "lite" read...Short like a series romance. Sweet little story that reminds you of a Pilcher novel (but faster..LOL)

The brother and sister haven't seen each other in several years, but Caroline and her younger brother Jody are both determined to find Angus and try to convince him to come back home. Then, Caroline plans to return home in time for her wedding to the man her strong-willed stepmother Diana thinks is so suitable for Caroline.

Having recently lost his brother in a car accident, Oliver is still recovering from the tragedy and not really expecting visitors to his isolated family home. And, as the snow continues to fall over an extended period of time both Caroline and Oliver find themselves on the brink of making terrible mistakes; but perhaps these two wounded souls can save each other.
First of all, let me say that in my opinion this was just so typically Rosamunde Pilcher - light, sweet and simple reading. I don't mean that as a detrimental statement, as I appreciated that the story was uncomplicated and truly heartwarming. I would give this book an A+!
