Something from Nothing
Author: Phoebe Gilman
The blanket Joseph's grandfather made him is transformed into many things as the years go by: a jacket, a vest, a tie, a handkerchief -- and finally a button. Gilman's modern adaptation and lively illustrations turn this favorite Jewish tale into a contemporary classic.

Very cute children's story with charming illustrations. There is enough going on in the illustrations to make up several additional stories.

Wonderful book! Great illustrations! The rhymes are perfect! Really two books in one... my children love the little mouse story at the bottom of every page! I've already gotten 3 copies of this 2 for friends! My children from ages 2-11 love it!

This is a charming tale of passing on gifts from one generation to the next. With a musical poetry, the story showcases a talented grandfather who steadfastly converts an original gift of a baby blanket into various incarnations for his growing grandson. The grandson, in turn, immortalizes the sentiment in the form of a story to pass on for all generations.

Beautifully and whimsically illustrated, children will love discovering how even the "scraps" of each project are put to good use. I could especially relate to the mother who gave up on each "gift" as it outlived its usefulness, only to be humbled again and again by her father's resourcefulness.

This book follows the story of a little boy who receives a blanket from his grandpa. As the blanket deteriorates his grandpa alters it into new things. The story is much better than I am making it sound!

This is a precious book! Not only is the story of a growing boy and his grandfather just wonderful, but the pictures are tremendous. Pay attention to what the mice are doing with the blue fabric scraps at the bottom of the pictures. CUTE! One of my all-time favorite books, even if it is for kids!

This story is adapted from a Jewish folktale about an incredibly talented grandfather who makes his grandson a blanket that is made into something else that is made into something else...

My kids loved this story!
