This book is interestingly different from the author's better-known Dismas Hardy mystery series. Set in the early days of WWI in France, the characters are largely foreign (not-French) and each has his own angle on the impending war. Spies? Double-agents? Or just a group of guys who like to taste home-brewed beer every Wednesday night? This is a classic tale in the style of Sherlock Holmes.

Interesting story. Great if you like history and conspiracy theories of sorts. This one involves a murder mystery and apossible link to Sherlock Holmes. Characters deate whether or not Holmes actually existed or was just a fictional character.

Having read many of the Lescroart's novels, I was intrigued to find this novel. Set in World War I France, "Son of Holmes" revolves around a murder and wartime espionage. The case is investigated by the reputed son of Sherlock Holmes. The ending is classic English-style, "let's go in a room and reveal the killer." An enjoyable read.

I would not call this a "riveting thriller" as the blurb on the cover did. It is a fairly slow-paced espionage/murder case. The "Holmes" tie-in is negligible. However, I see that a reviewer on Amazon thinks the main interest here is as a possible backstory for Nero Wolfe,
which does sound very plausible.

A good read for a Holmes fan. If you can believe that Sherlock and "that woman" Irene Adler could have had a child. If not, then you still have the mystery.
