Lanen Kaelar has spent her life being told just how wrong-headed and foolish she is by her entire family. When her father dies, she chooses to leave her abusive relatives and to search out the great dragons she has always dreamed of, though she knows what she seeks may not be real.
But those who hold the true power know the prophecies have told of Lanen Kaelar since before her birth. Some fear the destiny she may fulfill, the mysteries she may unravel, and the strange and terrifying love she may find on the legendary Dragon Isle.

Lanen Kaelar leaves home to journey to the Dragon Isle. She dreams of communicating with the dragons as people once did. Once there, she encounters her evil (and unknown) father and his demon advisor who wish to use her against the dragons. This held my attention and I like the basic concept of the book, but it is not one I want to reread.

Not a traditional fantasy - the heroine, Lanen, finds the object of her quest very quickly, then spends the rest of the book resolving issues. Lots of romance but enough fantasy to keep it from being what I would call chick-lit.

First in a series. I really liked this one and went out and found the second right away.
