This is a beautifully written story filled with mysticism, passion and history.

I found this a very sad book. The multiple, subtle hints of racism between blacks and whites and, sadly, black to blacks, build up to a disturbing ending. Mysterious, sometimes hard to believe, but always powerful.

Fantastic tale of a family gone bizarre. I love Morrison's fantastical writing and deep character analysis.

A contemporary classic.

Morrison never ceases to amaze me! This book explores many different themes, including the richness of the African-American heritage; the importance of discovering family history; coming of age; the thin line between love and hate; incest; the "money-is-the-root-of-all evil" principle; domestic violence; resentfulness among siblings; and racially-motivated violence. A great read! Not her best, but still a rare jewel and must-read.

A coming of age story of Milkman, an African American boy growing up in a relatively wealthy family. Macon Dead III, aka Milkman, seems to always be surrounded by controversy... either between his parents, among his friends, or with his aunt and her family. He grows up feeling no connection to his family and drifting through an easy life provided by his father's property wealth and his mother's reputation as the doctor's daughter. Milkman embarks on a journey that ultimately helps him find his heritage and himself... He learns to "fly" on his own.
Toni Morrison's third novel--a classic.
"Song of Solomon places Toni Morrison in the first rank of american novelists!" Washington Post
Read this! This is her masterpiece, not Beloved. Wonderful magical realist fiction.
This book is so amazing I read it twice. It is written incredibly well.
i usually like her writing, but i was not as impressed with this one (the ending blew it for me). i would recommend 'the bluest eye' or 'beloved' before this.
Awarded Best Novel of the Year - this is another terrific story from Tony Morrison.
Morrison is a great story teller and her books enriches you and lifts you up!
A unniverse where ghost exist, where dead man's bones are kept in the living room, where a young woman dies of heartbreak, and a grown man wills himself to fly.
Some parts of this are rough to get through, but it's well worth the effort.
Intense. Superb writing by a nobel prize in literature winner.
Beautifully written, sad book.
this book is excellent.
National Best Seller and recommended book for Oprah's book club. A must for Toni Morrison fans.
Everything in Oprah's Book Club is good reading (even if some are kind of depressing).
I enjoyed reading this book. It is wonderfully written and keeps you coming back for more.
An intreiguing book - full of very deep imagery. A must read!
I thought this was slow and hard to get into, but my sister LOVED it and couldnt put it down. Its good if you are into religous/mystical slave history.
I can see why so many people consider this a rich, deep story. I read it in just a few days. The ending was unexpected, and I'm still trying to understand it. This novel and the people in it are unforgettable.
