This story takes place in New Zealand 1893 and centers around two grand daughters(Kura and Elaine) from a prominent sheep farming family. I especially enjoyed the story when it was about Elaine, but didn't care for Kura who was very self centered and selfish. I thought the plot line and character development was excellent, but it was just so long.....I didn't realize that this was a sequel to The Land of the Long White Cloud or I would have read it first. RIO and all that.:) This does stand on its own, but I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more had I read the other one first.
