Lovely old book (originally published in 1939) about regular people before and during the American Civil War, how they lived and what they ate. Surprisingly deep in emotional detail. A bit of a warning, though - terminology is quite dated - the N word is used a number of times.
I read this book at 13 in 1969 and never forgot it. I mean, never. I had fallen in love the year before with Gone with the Wind and this was probably the next historical romance I read. Strange that both books came out about the same time. Song of Years is a moving love story with a warm and happy ending and my best friend and I both loved it and recommended it to all the girls in our class.
