One of McCrumb's great Appalachian novels. This one is the sixth in the series. It's better (although not necessary)to read the entire series in order, as her characters evolve throughout the series. She's a really great author.

This is an excellent book for those who love mysteries and southern stories. Sharyn McCrumb includes the "mountain" culture in this true-to-life story about southerners that are cultured and intellegent. I resent anything that attempts to make southerners look stupid, and McCrumb never does that!

A folksinger is haunted by the memory of a song that was passed down through generations. She returns to the mountains of North Carolina to reacquaint herself with the song from a mountain lady, Nora Bonesteel, who talks to the living and the dead.

Another great book by Sharyn McCrumb; it is a good story which takes place in Appalachia. Her writing vividly paints a picture of the beauty and culture of this area of the US. Other reviews detail story plot.

Another great McCrumb story. A folksinger vaguely remembers an old song, and her only hope of finding it - and her family legacy -- is in the mountains of western North Caroline and the old mountain wise woman, Nora Bonesteel, who has second sight.

Not my favorite by McCrumb, but it is still worth reading.

Sharyn McCrumb once again has created a powerful ballad story with The Songcatcher. There is an intense emotional haste in the novel to find the song, preserve the Appalachia heritage, and connect with family. The reader, like each generation of McCourrys, will find their truth in the lyric -- And when hes come back home, he will be changed oh!

I liked this book so much I decided to keep it. Having an avid interest in both family history and scrapbooking I found the author's detailing of her own family history along with local musical customs incorporated in an adventure/mystery historical fiction fascinating. This is a book for readers who enjoy history, and people with all their myriad idiosyncrasies.
